If it hasn't been started yet and the other one has petered out. Usually you will know when one of the mods goes... "Ok... who's gonna do the next one?".. then you can go ahead and start a new thread :)

Jera- "year" (solar year), reward, fruition.
Precious stone or crystal- Moss agate
Literally means "year" ( a fruitfull one), this rune represents sowing and reaping, birth death and rebirth, and the rewards or penaltys for ones actions (law). It is a Rune of awareness and patience...
I did a drawing at the end of last year in question of what this year will hold for me and one of the Runes I drew was Jera. Im stoked to say the least! Its about time I came across a year that will be fuitfull.
Ummm... I dont know about you guys but Im way looking forward to reading Rick's interp. of this one... uhh umm..... :D

As all the runes are seperate disscussion I would like to keep them that way.
Just start a thread entitled ~
Rune number 12: Jera

Not being Norse or Germanic, I haven't really worked with the runes. I am interested on learning more, though - is there a thread that suggests really good solid reading material somewhere?

June 25th, 2002, 05:02 AM
Azure, thanks for your interest, any of these threads in this forum talk in depth about all the runes, or if you want to do a serach with google you could find some sites that describe runes on a whole and give you more of a background knowledge to them.

Uruz has always been for me a Rune of challenge and new beginnings.
It represents, to me , the hope for success and the possibility of failure in any new endeavour. It is a Rune that I have learned to respect in any reading, especially in business or romantic dealings, It is definately a Rune to watch out for.

Cup 'em in your hands, & drop 'em on the table
oh and , how do you tell if Isa is reverse?
Isa is non-reversible & non-invertible... it looks the same, any way you turn it... well, except sideways... :hehehehe:

Hello to all
Could you help me to interprete the meaning of thiese spreads?
I asked the runes about buying or not a thing.
1st, I extracted only a rune, to see a general view. It resulted Sowilo.
Then, I used one more complete spread consisting in 3 runes, from right to left: the 1st is the whole situation, the 2nd the challenge, and the 3rd the action I have to undertake.
the runes which came up were:
!st Dagaz
2nd Ansuz
3rd Laguz, reversed.
I don´t understand what do the runes mean?
Could you help me, please?
Rick

May 14th, 2004, 04:46 PM
Dear ricky
thanks for your answer. Now I see it more clear. But, could you explain me, what would be the message shown by the 3rd rune? The action(Laguz inverted).
Thanks
Futhark
May 14th, 2004, 05:54 PM
Hello again, Ricky
Perhaps is interesting to complete the question, to clarify that what I asked the runes if buying or not, are little antiquites, as dip pens etc. I dont know if it is important, but I tell it.
Now, please, tell me about the meaning of Laguz inverted.
Thanks

My runes are slightly different then yours, but have generally the same meanings and names... they are still refered to as elder futhark, but simple difference... like fehu is Feoh, and Manaz is Manu.... any ideas on why? Why the heck (can we say hell on the posts?) are my runes so the same but so different
Rick
January 19th, 2005, 12:31 AM
The names you've mentioned are from the Anglo-Saxon Futhark (or some variation thereof), rather than the Germanic (Elder) Futhark. Many authors (especially those that aren't particularly well researched, or are mostly regurgitating the poor research of others) often make the mistake of 'mixing & matching' the names of the runes (not to be confused with the same runic symbol in different Futharks/Futhorcs having different names because of linguistic differences).

Interesting.. thank you Rick... I find that to be both surprising and a bit of a shame as the author of my book claims that the runes ARE elder futhark, the germanic pagan runes... what a shame indeed. Oh well. What are these other five anglo-saxon runes mucgwyrt mentions?
Rick
January 20th, 2005, 01:16 PM
The Anglo-Saxon has 29-33 runes in it (again, sorta depends which 'language' you're using... both are historically valid)... an excellent source for these is Nigel Pennick'c Rune Magic, which I believe is still in print & available from amazon.com or B&N.com, or maybe even your local bookstore.

Rick, what do you think of Edred Thorsson's work?
I think that many of his works are "must-have's" if one is a serious student of runes. I think many of his works aren't for everyone, & are ONLY for serious students of runes. I think that since he has a fistful of doctorates in the areas that he writes about, & has done a decade worth of field research in various locations throughout Europe, he probably knows whereof he speaks.

I have a question i got my first rune set recently and have been doing readings their a lot of fun but i noticed something weird with the spread i like most it has a spot for what the person lacks and when i try reading for myself no matter what specific issue it is i almost always get hagal in this spot i know it represents change and even disaster but i don't get it does it mean im stuck in a rut or my life dosent have enough disaster?? cuz my life changed a lot in the past few months no disasters but im happy without disaster thank you!!

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and would appreciate any advice on the following.
On three occasions in recent years I've asked the runes to shed light on the "essence" of my life or what most clearly summarizes what my life is about (a pretty general--and vain--question, I know), and every time I've drawn the Nyd rune - reversed on one occasion and "normal" the other two.
From what I've read, the Nyd rune, reversed or not, isn't exactly good news (failure, delays, sorrow, hunger, etc). I find this especially disturbing since I've always been idealistic and goal-oriented, and have worked hard to achieve what I have in life. I have big plans for the coming years and the thought of failure and sorrow as the "essence" my life gives me shudders!
Am I missing something or do you think there's reason to worry?
Thanks!
Eldred Grimm

What source are you using Nyd? Nyd is one of the runes that has no reverse
But then there is the argument that none of the runes have reveres
Nyd also indicates the Vail and night is the Vail one of the goddess of Nyd is Nott or night
my question is what are you hunger for?
and Delay may mean being slow to reacted
Nyd means Need A need to do
hope this helps

I received a lovely new unfinished wooden set of runes for Christmas from a friend. I am supposed to consecrate it with oil which will not rot the wood. I was wondering which oil would be best? It's my first wooden set, I've only had stone ones before and I'm not quite sure.
