History is peppered with intriguing tales of people who, for all intents and purposes, inexplicably vanish from the face of the earth without a trace. These stories - some of the most fascinating in the annals of the unexplained - vary from being well-documented to having the flavor of mere legend and folklore. But they are all fascinating because they force us to question the solidity of our existence. Where did these vanished people go? A time portal? Another dimension? Into a UFO? Consider those chilling possibilities as you read these amazing reports:

I have my own unexplained disappearance experience. In September 2003 I was working as a Job Coach for Goodwill, and we had a client who got a job in maintenance at one of the Wal-Marts here in town. This happened during his first two training weeks, so we were going around with his departmental trainer, learning the routine. They were cleaning the bathrooms in the back of the store, by the layaway desk. There were three rooms to clean - Men's, Women's and a small Community Bathroom, used mostly by employees. The Women's and Community bathroom doors were right next to each other.
They had just finished with the Community one, and were about to start on the Women's, when an older woman, probably in her mid-60's, went into the bathroom. I was leaning against a wall, directly facing the Women's bathroom door. All three of us saw her go into the room. The trainer knocked on the door anyway and announced "Maintenance," and we all heard her say "Yes, I'm in here." The trainer positioned the cleaning cart in front of the door to keep other people out, so that they could clean the room after the woman was finished.
We waited for 15 minutes for the woman to come out. Now, when you're right outside the door, you can hear noises in the bathroom - toilet paper being pulled off the roll, toilets flushing, stall doors opening and closing, water running in the sinks, etc. We heard not one single sound in all of that 15 minutes. The woman had said she was in the room, and that was the last thing we heard. Finally, the trainer asked a female employee to go in and see what this woman had been doing for 15 minutes. The girl went in, came back out, and said "There's nobody in there."

It was impossible for her to have gotten out without all three of us knowing it. There was no other way out of that bathroom. Just the one door, and it had been barricaded by the cleaning cart. In addition, I was facing the door and would have seen it open. She just......vanished. She went into the bathroom, and never came out.
I still can't figure out what happened.

The first thing I thought was that it was a ghost, like the kind of full, solid-body types that drivers tend to give rides to on dark, stormy nights, who then disappear from the back seats and scare the drivers half to death. :vanish:
