MM ~ This is what worked for me, and it's pretty standard, but it's not the only way. Everyone is different.
Pick the same time to practice each night, if possible. Find comfort, i.e., comfortable temperature, don't sit on something that puts your butt to sleep, etc. Dim lights.
Some people prefer candlelight, I find it too flickery and distracting. You want about the same level of light as moonlight. Experiment.
Block all reflections in the crystal (I have a habit of saying "crystal" but this would also apply to a mirror). Drape it with a dark cloth and/or sit in such a way that your body is blocking the light source. You should just be able to see the "glow" of the crystal. One tiny pinpoint of light is okay and some even consider it necessary (we call them points de repere) as it is likely to "become something"!
Look into the crystal and look at it. If you don't see anything at first, do not be discouraged. Simply continue to practice.
When a thought comes into your mind, direct your attention back to the crystal. You don't have to be a master of meditation - it is the effort of redirecting, over and over, that gives results. You are training your mind to react to the crystal.
Continue to practice regularly until you get results. This could be very soon, or it could take months. Do not be discouraged. :crystalba
Do not practice after you have been drinking or after a heavy meal. This kills results. Do your practice first and you can do what you want, after.
Enjoy! And post any questions you may have.

PS Absolute best book, IMHO: Crystal Gazing by Theodore Besterman. Probably OOP, but easily acquired online. _witchball
