I had two dreams recently which don't make much sense to me...who knows a lot about deciphering dreams or figuring out the possible symbolism in them? I'll quote directly from my Yahoo 360 blog:

Dream #1...from my blog entry for September 14, 2005

I had probably what can be considered the most vivid, most horrible nightmare I have ever had. When I woke up this morning from it, I had this intense need to smudge my room with my sage stick but was so paralyzed from fear that I didn't.

The dream began what seemed to be the 1930s or 1940s...the manner of dress for everyone was akin to the old film noir classics like "The Maltese Falcon" or "Laura"...trenchcoats, business suits for men and women alike...this part of the dream was probably in black and white for the most part except for the occasional splash of color like "The Picture of Dorian Gray". In fact, some of the other people in my dream were characters from a movie...most notably Brigid O'Shaughnessy (Mary Astor's character from "The Maltese Falcon")...or else they were people from my real life dressed up and acting like other film noir characters. Tyson was basically Sam Spade...dressed in a trenchcoat, talking fast, smoking cigarettes, and doing most of the dirty work. Basically I was being held hostage along with several other people (including my brother, who was simply himself) by this evil old man who seemed to have taken control of my house (although it wasn't my house...much bigger) and everything in it. My parents weren't dead...they just weren't around, like they were on vacation or something. This man was a couple inches taller than me (I'm around 5'7" or 5'8") and thin like Clifton Webb...and he had this stern, thin, cold face. Very creepy. For some reason he was trying to "train" my brother Steven for something...trying to access his brain power for something, but Steven being Steven, there's no way to crack through that. I was pissed off that the old man was trying to use Steven...I wanted to kill him. Brigid and I spent a good part of the dream hiding out in a bathroom or some other secluded room, while Tyson was our "protector", making sure we weren't found and keeping me updated on the old man's doings. I set out to kill the old man. I had found a leather belt and had tied a knot in the center of it, and I was going to strangle him with it. I snuck out and wandered casually over to where the old man was...he was sitting at a desk doing work, Steven was sitting somewhere close by doing what he normally does. I was very slick with taking the belt and wrapping it around the man's neck and pulled as hard as I could. A couple times it seemed like I was going to lose my hold on him, as he turned out to be very strong and fast-moving...but I kept pulling and held on. He stopped moving and breathing, and I thought I'd done it. I felt like Princess Leia after she strangled Jabba the Hutt. But suddenly he got up and faced me, and this is when the actual color flashes came. He looked like the disfigured portrait of Dorian Gray, except his face was crimson red and his eyes were filled with blood. He started to come after me, but I pulled more on the belt, but it finally snapped. Finally someone (I don't know who it was) grabbed the old man, carried him in the air, and dropped him headfirst in a garbage can.

That was the first part of the dream. There's more.

Fast-forward to present times...I am living in an apartment remarkably similar to my aunt's old one, I am married (or I have a male roommate) and I have a daughter and we all live as Witches...the entire apartment is decked out with magickal items and what-not. It is a cool place, to be sure! Ever so slowly, we find we are being haunted by the ghost of the old man...horrible feelings and memories surface, items are disappearing and other items from the old man's house appear in the apartment...it was very freaky. I had relatives visiting as well, and we had to get them out quickly. I knew the old man was the thing behind the hauntings...the feeling of dread was getting greater each second. Scott (either my husband or my roomie), my daughter and I ran to the bedroom and grabbed some sticks of sweetgrass to smudge the apartment, protect it from the evil that was coming. We lit them and ran around everywhere, smudging the entire apartment. But the evil wasn't gone, it was still there. So I went back and grabbed a sage stick and began using it. It was then that the old man appeared before us...looking just as he had before he died. I screamed. There was a vacuum effect, and I felt like I was being pulled towards him. I pointed the sage stick at him and chanted a vanquishing spell not unlike "Charmed"...and right as I finished, the old man took out a knife, pointed the blade upward against his chin, and drove it through his head...he instantly turned to clouds of ash which flew out the window.

I woke up almost right after this...again paralyzed...wanting to scream and cry but I couldn't even open my mouth...I couldn't move and smudge my room. I looked around myself, and it seemed like the room was swirling very slowly...and the feelings of dread that I felt was still there for a long time. Eventually I did go back to sleep for a couple more hours.
Dream #2...from my blog entry for September 18, 2005

another dream...although this one decidedly was not a nightmare.

I dreamed that David had invited Kate and I over to where he was staying and hang out. In the dream he was living in a giant trailer somewhere on Idaho Point, and he was not alone. His brother Levi was there with Paul (who was his best friend up until two years ago) and David was there with a new girlfriend. It turned out that he asked me there to get my blessing...my approval of his new girl. I was at first very uncomfortable and felt very awkward, and so did Kate. His girlfriend physically resembled an old classmate of mine, Tami, but it wasn't her. I talked to her for a little bit and actually liked her. I wound up giving my blessing. In the meantime, I kept receiving text messages on my phone from Tyson...they were lines from my side of our many Messenger convos since we'd met...he was sending them all back to me. I don't know what that could mean now, but in my dream I was very happy, that maybe now he believed me and was ready to try again.
If anyone can help me with any possible clues as to what they could mean, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

For those of you who don't know...Tyson is my bf, for how much longer I don't know...my brother Steven is severely autistic and cannot function like a normal person...David is my ex-fiance who I still keep in contact with...and Kate is a close friend of mine.

Well since you are comparing it to The Picture of Dorian Gray you should see what those characters mean to you
Being held hostage tends by on old man in your house -well putting that into your life it will probably mean that someone (probably male) does have control over you and is stopping you from moving forward in your life. Houses tend to represent you -the fact that it was much bigger than you probably indicates that there is much about yourself you are yet to discover and again the fact that the man has control of the house means he is controlling you. it also seems iyour "escape" will not be helped by your parents
The man trying to control Stephen again indicates that someone is trying to control both of you mentally (although Stephen isn't so easy to control)
Bathrooms are a place of releasing old emotions (i.e as you release the old when on the toilet), washing yourself clean of the past etc which is probably what you need to do in your life
It seems you try to kill the man -but fail. It seems your plan to escape isn't the right one. Soemone helps you -but not by killing him but just throwing him out of your life

It seems as though there is someone who has to much control over you in your life that you need to throw out onto the garbage and get rid of from your life

Right fastforwarding to the next part :)
Again you are at home -this time happier and more balanced with new things in your life (i.e your husband and daughter in your dream)
It seems however that the old man still haunts you, and again you cannot defeat him again he controls you.

I do strongly suspect that there is someone in your real life that has a lot of control over your life that you need to free yourself from (I also think this person's connection is so strong it probably links into past lives where you also failed to break the connection).
You need to figure out who this man is in your real life -and then break free from him

Right onto dream 2
It seems again to relate to things in your past - it reminds you of someone from school so think what Tami meant to you what you thought of her. However in this dream you do seem to be moving on - you give your blessing
You recieve your messages from Tyson -he again beings up the past conversations but again you are thinking of putting the past behind you and moving on

Generally this dream seems very positve that you are heading in the right direction

Thanks SoulHealer...I appreciate the interpretation very much, and there are quite a few things which you may be right about.
Anyone else want to take a crack at this?

Again, quoting from my Yahoo 360 blog:

yet another dream...this one is a bit weird so if anyone out there has a knack for deciphering dreams, I'd love your opinion.

I went over to my aunt Patsy's for the weekend (like I am planning to this weekend). I am sitting there having a drink with her and some friends of hers (I think Kate and David are there also), when a very tall, very handsome man comes over and opens Patsy's fridge looking for a beer. I whisper, "Who is that???" and one of the gals sitting at the table tells me...he's the father of her 3 kids and OFF LIMITS. I looked at her for a moment. She strongly resembles Caitlin Thomas (wife of poet Dylan Thomas). Kate and I are scheming for way to figure out if this man is truly off limits or not...he seemed to love his kids but didn't show much of how he felt about "Caitlin". There are plenty of young women running around, and so David has plenty of chances of scoring himself. We find ourselves sitting down in a room somewhere talking, and eventually I laid my head to rest on his shoulder. He puts his arm around me. Someone walks in casually, maybe it was Kate I don't know...but he and I don't move. That's the last thing I remember before waking up.
:wth: HELP PLEASE. It would seem like the dream has an obvious meaning, but when you look back at the other dreams I've had recently...it doesn't make any sense at all!
