Okay... As much as I would not want New Orleans to get screwed over again...
I would prefer Rita take an Easterly Track...and not head straight for us.

Yes, ladies and gents...that line is headed straight into my back yard.
So, if I am not around after Thursday, you will know why...we have loaded up all our furbabies and gone to wait out the storm... that's right...I will be outta here...evacuated!
If you can spare energy to kill this thing in the water, I would appreciate it.

You and me both. Down here in Corpus Christi we're anxiously watching this one... blech! And here I was all excited my husband might be released to come home by this weekend for a break from the hurricane relief in New Orleans and it looks like it might be just in time for him to help evacuate the aircraft to Dallas.
here's my energy going to stop this one too!

Yep, my husband and I live about 30 miles from Galveston so we're heading out soon. My parents live in Friendswood and they're also heading out. We're going up to San Antonio for the weekend and hopefully will be able to return home after the storm passes.

The water in the Gulf is so hot right now, and that's feeding the storm. Please may this storm cool off, downgrade in its intensity. May all in Rita's path be wary, prepared, and stay safe from harm. Take good care.

Yep I've heard much about LC being mandatory out also. I work in La Porte (live in Pearland) and we're expecting our offices to be under water unfortunately.

I think the whole US has had enough Hurricanes for one year, I hope it blows back out into the Atlantic and fizzles away.

I have slept for only about 3 hours and am worried sick about Michael, my son. He is 19 physically, but only about 9 emotionally.
He is driving our Rodeo, but it was overheating, so he has been having to drive it with the heater blasting to help keep the engine from overheating too badly.
We had to seperate at about 1:30 this morning because he was exhausted and could not drive any longer. He wanted to get some rest and then would follow the directions I wrote down for him to come in a little later.
Then about 5, he called my husband and told him that he could not sleep so he decided to keep driving. But he didn't think he could make it because he hadn't even gotten to Austin yet. Austin is about 150 miles South of where he is supposed to be....in Central Texas.
I told him to call us collect or ask to borrow someone's cell phone to call. His, his sister's and mine were all dead by the time we had to seperate.
Needless to say, I am worried sick.
I drove 18 hours straight to get here with 8 cats, a dog and two parakeets. My husband made it in about 15.
League City is between Houston and Galveston. We can usually make the trip in about 3 1/2 - 4 hours.
I don't know what to do, but my older brother is a cop in a small city near here. I will probably call him and see if he can help me. I can hardly think straight with worry.
My husband and daughter are asleep now, and I should get some more but I can't. Not with my son out there in god knows what condition and god knows where. I have called in an overdue motorist report, but with all the traffic, god knows if they will spot him.
Sorry if this is rambling. Just really tired and very upset right now.
Oh, and with it coming straight at Galveston now.......we are seriously looking at not having a home left. Our home was built in 1979, so it withstood Aliesha with some damage, but it was only a Cat 3. This one is a Cat 5 and with a storm surge of about 25 ft. that will put us under water. Allison couldn't get us. Grace couldn't get us. But Rita may. Good thing we are insured completely. FEMA and the Reserves are basing out of Bryan/College Station so they can respond.
Our next door neighbor's husband is Civil Defense, so he had to stay. If you can spare any energy for him, I would appreciate it.
Thanks for listening to me ramble.
I will be back on in a little while.

The constable called about an hour ago. My son was in an automobile accident with an 18 wheeler. He is okay, but shaken and the car could be better.
He is with us now and safely away from the worst of the storm.

Hugs to you indebeted, I know just how you feel right now.
Hey it's me... sorry I haven't been around lately. Been getting ready for this hurricane Rita that's headed our way. I am very worried about my apartment, and we have no guel out here and there's no stores open. No food, no water!! This is the first time they have deemed a "manditory" evacuation of Houston coastal areas. I won't be on for awhile... please pray for everyone here. There are people stuck on the freeways with no gas... we're screwed!! Love pauline

Strength for all those who will be return to their homes and routines soon. Be patient and careful! The roads may be full of hazards and debris. Watch for downed power lines and try to be aware of gas leaks.

BR, how are you holding out? Hopefully well. I heard on KHOU that Kroger and HEB are opening tomorrow, so you should be able to get some food. Gas tankers are being escorted in, so stations should be opening up soon...or at least the 24 hour ones that take credit cards at the pump should be open. The only reason they would not work would be because of electricity outages.
Our neighborhood held up nicely. A neighbor went home today and called to tell us our house is fine (praise be!). Our return time is Monday...but we will probably wait until Tuesday or so, just to be sure the roads are clear. The kid's school does not open until Thursday. Hubby's work still hasn't decided when they have to return, but he has some vacation time so he may wait with us.
We have to talk to the judge about my son's accident. I will call on Monday and see if we can get him Community Service down in the LC area...maybe helping with the Beaumont relief effort or something. I think they were shipping people to Houston from Port Arthur and Beaumont for a bit. We will see. I don't know if Katrina vics will come back to Houston or just stay where they are. I guess we will find out.
To all who send energy to help us from being wiped off the face of the map and to help turn this things a bit...Thank you.
I know the communities who have been ravaged and are still being ravaged by this storm need our energies now, but I wanted to say a special thank you because if it had remained as strong as it was and had remained on its course toward Galveston, there would be a hugely different story. Rather than relatively minor damage (again that is relative based on what could have happened) we could have been in the midst of a catastrophe...one to make Katrina look minor.
Thank you once again.
