:spinnysmi When conversing with the dead threw dreams we call it SURVIVAL DREAMS. Some people use divination tools to help them communicate. It would be nice if the community could share how each of you converse. I know a lot of people wish to talk to their loved ones but don't know how to even start.

For me conversing with the dead is only through Survival Dreams. Which is a bit different then how others do it. I do not try to get in touch with them, they come to me with a message. For a survival dream is just that someone(which doesn't have to even be a loved one) gets in touch because they have a message for you. If there was no message they would not contact me.

However as I said many do converse with the dead in other ways and for all sorts of reasons. Please feel free to share your experiences with us and give any helpful advice you would have to someone whating to do this or with an interest in it.

01. Give example of how to contact the dead.
02. Share your experiences
03. What Precautions should be taken
04. How would one break contact if they felt uncomfortable with the communication at any time.
05. What tools can be used

01. Give example of how to contact the dead.
Well I've never used dreams to contact the dead I tend to see hear feel them when I am awake

02. Share your experiences
I have so many as its part of everyday life for me so I will tell you the one my parents have told me. When I was born my mother spent 10 days inhospital as there were complications. When she came out my father picked her up and they went to the only shop that opened late at night back then. They had often laughed at the shop owmer as he looked and acted like my grandad (from my dad's side) who had died 7-8 years before. On this night though his wife was working in the shop (who my parents had never met before) my dad stopped the car and sent my mum into the shop even though it was raining and she was carrying 10 day old me. My mum went in and froze as the woman in shop turned around and said "OH I thought you were my daughter in law coming to show me the new baby. It's a girl you know and I always wanted a girl. I have two boys you know and I so wanted a grandaughter. Can I have a look at your baby?" Both my parents say this woman was the spitting image of my dead grandma (again on my dad's side who died 6 weeks before my grandad in a unrelated illness to my grandad) and what she said matched my grandma she had desperetely wanted a girl and she did have two boys. It even matched right down to the markings on her leg. My grandma then told my mum that I was beautiful and she was so pleased she had met me

The next time (a few days later) my parents went into the shop and both the man and woman had "moved away from the area" according to the new people in the shop

Now as a child I knew nothing about this but as a child I always knew my grandparents were around me -they always hada cup of cocoa ready for me when I was upset

Then when I was older I went to a spiritualist church (basically as by then I had seen so many spirits I was concerned that if nobody else saw them I must be mad) I met a guy there who told me to ask my parents what happened the night I came home from hospital after being born ...which I did even though at the time I thought it was a strange question which is when my parents told me the story

03. What Precautions should be taken
Don't open up to them until you are ready, unless you are fully awake when communicating make sure nothing can interrupt you
The physical world is more likely to cause you problems than the spiritual one

04. How would one break contact if they felt uncomfortable with the communication at any time.
Most spirits will leave if asked

05. What tools can be used
personally I never use tools -but everything that feels right to you can be used

Have you ever had a dream about a relative that passed on?

Did it feel so real like they were right there with you?

Did you speak alot or maybe not need any words at all for communicating?

Some people say it's wishful thinking, communicating with the dead. But if you've had dream experiences like this it's a chance you have been communicating in Survival Dreams. Sometimes it's just a message to tell you they are alright. Other times they reassure you your doing just fine. Small messages but when you wake you feel so warm and comfortable you don't want to get out of bed or even wish to go back to sleep. That's because you weren't done communicating.

Please feel free to share your experiences with us.

I myself have had a few visits from my grandmother and she found a way for me to let her go after a few visits I realized it wasn't the end of us being together, I would see her again in the end.

After that her visits stopped but sometimes I wish she'd visit me now so that I would know she was still looking in.

I do however have survival dreams about a young man name David. He was my brothers best friend. His visits make me feel watched over, but words really aren't spoken I'm happy to see him and I have I guess you could say flashes of images of everyone telling him my brother is fine and I'm sure his brother is fine.

When I wake it's one of those dreams you want to fall back to sleep to keep communicating because I always want to ask something and I wake. But I feel very relaxed, comfortable and have a strong feeling that I'm doing ok or things will be okay.

I've never tried to purposely contact the dead, so i'm not an expert on it. I have some experiences that I can share.

My grandma died at the beginning of the year. I was sleeping at her house about a week later, and there is a wardrobe with a length size mirror in the middle, opposite the bed. Now in China, if a mirror is placed opposite your bed it's bad fengshui, and it's meant to mean you'll be plagued by spirits. My grandma told me as a kid that wardrobe was an annoyance as she had no other place to put it except opposite her bed. It never bothered me, as I never believed in any of that.

Anyway, I had a very vivid dream. I hardly EVER get vivid dreams. This one was like as if I was indeed fully awake, and sitting in bed and talking to my mum who was packing for us to leave...it was all very normal. But after awhile I noticed everytime she passed the mirror there was no reflection, as I was starting to freak out, in the mirror appeared my grandma who I could see by the reflection was standing behind my bed straining to get me to notice her. I noticed her alright, and I screamed "but you're dead!!" (I didn't know I was dreaming). She looked upset at this and shook her head. I woke up screaming and kicking and basically very freaked out. After I calmed down I realised that was quite rude of me. The dreams continued though for a week. My dreams went from illogical ones to vivid normal everyday routine ones, me watching tv and my mum and I talking etc...and my grandma would always come through the veranda door and sit with us in silence.

Eventually I asked her to stop. Those dreams woke me up during the night and I could never get back to sleep. I told her I know she's there, so the next night it stopped..and have never dreamt of her since. My mum still does though.

Also my second experience was much more scary. My grandfather on my dad's side I was never close with. I was barely affected by his death, and soon forgot about it. After about 3 months I had a dream in which he was floating outside my window and banging and screaming in rage to let him in..he kept saying, you have to burn money for me! (paper money for the dead) I was shocked and was trying to hide, when I noticed that there were metal bars on my window preventing him from getting into my room. I don't have them on my window.

I woke up and told me parents about it. They were surprised and told me they've been having dreams that he would intimidate them for money. I later went back into my room and realised what had kept him out. I had the week before, out of shere boredom made a bottle of crushed rose thorns, salt and mixed it with water to ward out spirits...and placed it on my window sill.

I at the time had no idea what I wanted to keep out, just wanted to do a protection spell just in case. It was my first and i'm very glad it worked!

I wonder what he would need money for?

I've often wondered that myself too. I presumed once you went to the afterlife materialistic beliefs would be suspended. But the Chinese have the culture of burning paper money made of silver or gold paper. They've started making paper houses and servants, even mobile phones for ppl to burn and send to their loved ones. It's extremely important to keep burning for at least a week after they die and regularly afterwards to keep them supplied with money.... It's these beliefs that really clash with my assumption of the afterlife (which is also why I posted a thread on that)

Well anyway, He has a HUGE family who burns money for him. In Australia we don't have access to that type of money, so he probably was mad one of his family members wasn't paying attention to him or something along those lines.

Wow that is so interesting. Maybe some different member can post different beliefs in communicating with the dead here as well.

Now I don't try to contact them but I do talk to my granny and my brothers best friend from time to time. Whether they hear me or not I don't know because it's not really a full connection it's just me speaking to them, I like to call it a ONE WAY MESSAGE. I like to think they hear me and watch over me but if it's not a survival dream that's the only connection of conversing I have with them and most the time it's without words.

I"ve not really tried to contact the dead....not on purpose anyway. I do dream about my dad who passed away just over 5 yrs ago. I dream about him doing everyday stuff....mowing the property on his tractor or cooking....wow he was an awesome cook....the dreams start out usually with me walking thru the door and seeing my dad doing whatever and we start talking to each other. About nothing in particular usually...just like "hey whats up?" "Not much...whats for dinner" Or one time I dreampt about him mowing their property in IN....I walked towards the tractor....he stopped and slowed the engine....i hollered that mom was going to the store and did he need anything from Home Depot. He shook his head no and i walked back to the house.

Thats pretty much how they usually go.

The dead?

I think this is a tricky one as people have so many ways to explain clairvoyance, clairaudience and other 'paranormal' experiences involving spirits. The best way I explain it is this...

By reading what I am writing, you are decoding symbols with your eyes, when you listen to a conversation you are decoding with you ears, as with spirits, well I would say you are decoding with the front of your head (the area where they say the 'Third Eye' chakra is located.

I've had a lot of experiences, sometimes triggered by tarot and meditation, although sometimes involuntarily, sometimes because I ask for it (although I would say spiritually I am not practicing anything at the moment as I'm focussing on my studies). I don't believe in the 'paranormal' and the 'normal'. The 'metaphysical' and the 'physical' are called such because that is how we define them because of our spiritual socialisation and in relation to what can and what cannot be explained via science. To experience 'spirits' you just have to let yourself, to open your mind.

Just like different forms of meditation work for different people, just as we have so many spiritual paths that help us connect with God, Awen, The Goddess, the Divine ect, there are several ways in which to connect with spirits. It's simply a matter of tuning in, just as an athlete reaches within his own will to get that sudden burst of energy to get a better time running a lap.

With the exception of Tarot, I've found meditation and focussing on a candle a big help but you need to remain calm... I mean it can be scary when you can feel somebody walking around you, when you can see pictures, numbers, words and symbols in your mind's eye... Sometimes you even question whether it's real . Try not to panic else you'll scare yourself...

I'm no expert, I don't practice it just as I don't practice magick (at this point in my life I am not drawn to it) but I used to focus on sound, candles and incense smoke and let it come to me.

02. Share your experiences

There have been man... I've experienced it once through a dream and a few times through meditation although my strongest experiences have been out walking the dog, or in my old home.

I used to live in an old house and be a very sensitive young lady, we lived up in Bwlchgwyn, which is the highest village in Wales and our house held a lot of negative energies. I recall my bed shaking and always said there was a young lady in my bedroom... However a few years later I was moved in to a different room.

My house always had whispers and unusual energies to the point where one of my mother's old partners would not stay in the room prior to my brother and I being moved in to it. One night I found myself restless and got those feelings again... I was being watched. And I lay there and simply asked "who are you?"

No reply... The front of my head felt funny though, I asked him to show me his face and he did. He was a man of importance with a moustache that was trimmed, but that covered his top lip... He had short brown hair with a hairline that so slightly receded, I think his eyes were dark He was angry...

I asked him why and he showed me that something was under the village that he wanted. I can't explain how it looked, I just kind of knew that he wanted something from underneath the village.

A few years on and I went to the heritidge museum, a lot of what I'd experienced was now at the back of my mind and my counsellor put it down to ill mental health. I looked through some documents about my old village and found that my house was owned by the manager of the mines and that the mines were closed down because all the produce that was needed was directly under where the village was built. They would have had to rebuild all the houses down the valley to get to it, that would have cost too much money. The thing is I tell my Mum why he was angry and I think I scare her with it... I kind of shut up now...

Another experience, I was walking the dog and saw a small boy sitting by the side of a river, his knees tucked in. I'd never seem something with my physical eyes, it scared me so much. he was wearing 1950's style clothes...

I posted it on a BBC website...

03. What Precautions should be taken

Spirits are people without bodies... I've met one that scared me for a laugh. the physical world is far more dangerous, just know you're dealing with sentients that deserve as much respect as your fellow wo/man.

04. How would one break contact if they felt uncomfortable with the communication at any time.

I have asked them (politely) to leave me alone. Either that or try imagining a white bubble of light around you that blocks everything out. Your personal space is your own.

05. What tools can be used

Whatever feels right.

I've had dreams where i could see myself doing stuff but i couldnt talk to anyone etc. I've had dreams where i've woken up during the night, fallen back to sleep and picked up right where i left off in the dream...like someone used a pause button or something.

I've also had dreams where i wasnt human. Usually a dog or a horse etc.

I find all too often that spirits misrepresent themselves, even those of certain loved ones. While I have had experience in this catagory, I also have a lot of skepticism as I believe in reincarnation. If all the souls of our loved ones stay here after they die, then what is to be said of the afterlife? That they do not move on? That the christian god is right after all?

I tend to believe that they leave only an imprint of their soul here, it's like a radio frequency, which is why EVP works to contact "ghosts". They're not really souls searching for the light, just imprints of their former selves, that will remain here as long as those who knew them, remember them. I have tested my theory and one thing that rings true is that a ghost will not know current events, they will see the world as they saw it when they were living, and information about events preceeding their death, or even prequeling their birth will not exist to them. The soul on the other hand, learns about its surroundings, and a spirit guide, or angel guide, seems to know about everything around them and more, though I believe those are not souls either, only a gathering of energy to form another such imprint, though a different imprint.

That is my two cents in that catagory, I have had very bad experiences with talking to from ghosts, I will not be venturing off into that catagory in the future. I find that too much useless information comes from talking to the dead, therefore I don't do it.

Regardless of my views, I find this topic interesting.
