Do you mean how many elements i work with and relate to... or how many i call when casting a Circle? Casting a Circle i call each of the four directions and the corresponding element. But i work with spirit, yin/yang-Divine Masculine/Divine Feminine. Seems to me the more i try to define something the more difficult it becomes... so i try to take a more holistic approach to it all. bb talamh

I use a different set of directions for the elements, then what is outlined in most Wicca books. I see
Air as North
East as Earth
South as Fire
West as Water
I am interested in learning about the Chinese Elements: Water, Wood, Fire, Earth and Metal. An herb book that I read a while ago mentioned them and they sound interesting.
I found a good page telling about the different systems of elements:

I also use the periodic table too! ;)

 I voted five. I have always used the five you have in the poll, but recently I've been successfully experimenting with the eastern elements of: earth - metal - water - wood - fire.

Usually four or five - earth, air, fire, water, and often spirit. I used to work with elements according to faerie paganism but I can't find that info at the moment.

I voted four as during ritual I call upon the four elements. And regularly those are the four that I believe to be the elements.
However...five would come in second, as Spirit (or Akasha - thats a nicer name) is defintely an element in the universe.

I count lots. . . . . . ^^;;; Sometimes, if I have a whim to call comething an element. . .
For example, to me, Metal is an element. . . stone, wood, etc. The non-usual ones. But it could just be me ^^;

for the most part I've stuck to the traditional 5 elements (earth, air, fire, water, spirit) but have toyed with the idea of seven.
Lately I use north for wind, east for earth, south for fire, and west for water, which I see as invention, connection, change, and life. My girlfriend has been reading on things to do with the medicine wheel and its interesting how the native americans didn't bind the elements to a direction
I'm glad to see so many different ideas

There are 5, but you got the names wrong. They are (in no particular order):
Chaos
Dischord
Bureaucracy
Aftermath
Confusion

7 : Earth, fire, wood, metal, water, air, and spirit.
For the purposes of ritual, I may include all, some, or none -- it depends.
