I have been feeling very unsettled lately and have been considering going to a psychic. I have never been to one and don't know how to go about finding a respectable one. Has anyone ever had any interesting/exciting experiences with them? Is there anything I should look out for? Is it a waste of time and money?

I've been to several psychics and got what I felt were mixed results. One was a medium who spoke to her guide and several were channelers who let their guides (one indian, one alien) do the talking.

Some of the information was very general and never did make sense but two of them came up with information that floored me leaving me unsure of what to think.

Do you know anyone who's been to a psychic or channeler who was impressed? Are you near a metaphysical/crystal/new age shop where there might be readings offered or at least have a bulletin board where signs or business cards would be posted?

If you do go to a psychic keep an open mind but be skeptical of what you hear. Many psychics are con artists and are extremely good at 'reading' their customers as in non-verbal responses to questions, facial expressions, etc. Don't volunteer information about yourself or your family or goals since the con artists are good at turning that info around into answers.

Watch out for psychics who are heavy on unverifiable information such as past lives (little detail), and events that will happen far into the future and phrases his/her answers in meaningless New Age babble.

Honestly, if you've got a Tarot deck you can do a reading for yourself that will be as informative as anything you'll get from a psychic. I would suggest that you go to the Tarot or Astrology forums here and ask for readings. They are free and if you want something more in depth they can help you out and the information that I've gotten in my readings has been right on the money. There are also people here willing to do free psychic readings. If you don't get what you need here then maybe look elsewhere.

I completley agree with Evendusk. There are so many "pyschics out there that are for real but just as many who are con artists and make a living off of reading you because they can do it so well. I have never gone to a pyschic before but a lady I worked for was a amazing pyschic. She didnt do it for money and didnt even tell that many people that she was one. She was right on the money, but to be honest it was kinda eerie. She knew everything about me, even the things I didnt want anyone to know. But she was also the most understanding and compassionate woman I'd ever met. Ask around to people who have seen pyschics in your area. Make sure its worth you spending your money first and that thay have a really good reputation. Like Evendusk said any witch or metapysical shops are the perfect place to start.Good Luck!

I agree with both Evendusk and Geministar, if you've heard of someone or know someone, great, otherwise, tap into your own potential. You never know what you can do until you try. Tarot cards, crystal balls and pendulums, all are great tools, though I hear crystal balls can take a serious amount of practice for some people. Ah well.

Good luck.

I agree with the others here. The problem with psychics is that where there may be one 'honest' one, there are probably 30 or more who are simply making it up. As has been said they'll read your body language and use a techinique called 'cold reading' - my other half does a talk on this very subject, we do feel that it is important to make people aware that not everyone is a true psychic or an honest person. So do be careful out there.

My aunt went to one who told her I was pregnant with my son, then she told my dad. When I found out I was pregnant I called my dad and he said he already knew. :foh:
I dont really believe in the ones who are out there and charge money.. I worry about scams to.
With all the stuff that is going on in my life the past 1 1/2 years, I'd sure like to see a real one. :rubhead:

I have met many who claim to be psychic, and of them all, only two were good ...I mean creepy good!

Something I noticed about the two that stood out from all the rest is worth noting. They were both outsiders of society. One was a gay man in a small conservative baptist town. The other was an older woman with no family - never had kids, siblings, and was adopted as a child by very cruel people who were no longer alive. Both of these people were kind, but they seemed haunted - as if every moment of their life was being interuppted by something I couldn't see or sense. When they offered information it was never dressed up, it was just blunt honesty. I admire that in people.

Anyway, I say save your money. Buy a good movie or book instead.

Don't go to many different psychics, you'll get a lot of mixed advice as some psychics become biased in their practice based on your wants and desires. You want a psychic to read from an unbiased stand point and tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear.

I hope that helps you in your search, and you can always check out what I offer!

i read tarot cards in a new age shop and i like to think of myself as a reputable psychic. what i have found is that people who are very guarded... who are skeptical... who aren't sure of the process... tend to be very closed and difficult to read for. people who are open and interested and willing to hear what Spirit is trying to tell them are much easier. that said, what i have found is that nine out of ten times, i can tease out the real issue. when i am reading someone and the energy "clicks", information flows easily, like through an open door or channel. when someone is closed, or if the energy between us is off for whatever reason (for example, i once did a reading for a lady with my celtic wicca deck who hated all things irish because her soon to be ex husband was irish. i wasn't getting anything and it occured to me to switch decks. when i did, and the reading started to go much better, she finally told me she really hated the first deck.) it can feel like im pulling on a door that says push or pushing on a door that says pull. i hope that helps. .

I agree with the opinion on skeptics, since they're not open, they are very difficult people to read for. Often times, they're there to test us, and they don't want us to know everything about them right off the bat, and so we don't. I myself have been reading for 6 years, and just recently joined www.kasamba.com plus began my own website. I usually don't do skeptics, but it depends on their level of skepticism.

I don't mind doing readings for skeptics. They can set there stone faced all they want..it doesn't really affect my reading. It used to bother me that they would just set there and not utter a peep. I still give them my impressions and the meaning of the symbolism in the cards. I think that they just don't want to be lied to or given stock lines that can be found in the astrology section of the newspaper. I treat them like anyone else.

Finding a decent psychic isn't an easy task. What I would do if I were looking for a psychic is to ask around..maybe go to a new age bookstore and see if they could recommend someone. Or, go to a psychic fair and just have a few sessions done.

i think another thing one has to be aware of when consulting a psychic is that the information is being filtered through someone else's awareness. for example, information that i receive intuitively frequently presents itself in imagery. it is very tempting to interpret the image of a woman, with a child, as a woman being pregnant, having a child, etc...however, in my experience, the image of the child doesn't always mean a literal child. another way to understand this is to remember how difficult it is to paint a picture, or to write a story. the story or the image of wht you want to create is in your mind... the words or the brushstrokes are frequently clumsy and it can be a struggle to get the words on the page to make the story tell the one you see in your head, or the painting match the picture in your mind.

SilverAnnie,

Your post rings so true with me. Tapping into the "collective soup" and coming up with your own interpretation of the various images and impules and impressions that you are getting might be totally different than what the querent is trying to communicate to you. Excellent point and examples.

There are some people that I connect with in a reading and there are some people whom I don't connect with. I don't understand it. Some times during a reading if I am not picking up on something or if some thing is not clear on the interpretation of a card I'll ask the person " What does this card mean to you ?" Then at least I'll have some direction or feel to go on with their answer. Sometimes that can be very helpful in terms of how the rest of the session is going to go.
