General information on Brownies:

*Originate in Scottland, but as the Scottish moved around, so the brownies moved with them

*There are similar indigenous beings similar to brownies, the Yumboes from North Africa and the Choa Phum Phi from China.

*Said to be about 3 feet tall, usually male, with rather flat faces and lots of hair. The typical Scottish Brownis has black eyes, slightly pointed ears, and long, agile fingers.

*Mostly wear little brown suits, cloaks and caps, however, on occasion they may be wearing green.

*Normally out and about at night, but can be seen during the day.

*May also live in old hollow trees or ruins.

*Cheerful and helpful unless offended, prefering to live in harmony with humans

*Do not like cheating, lying or messy people

*Love children, children often see them. Will often watch and play with children while the parent is busy.

*Some Brownies will attach themselves to a family for generations.

*Will tend to house plants and help out, though not fond of machinery. They will often warn you if your child or pets is ill or in danger.

*Don't overly gift or thank a Brownie or else they will leave. However, if the gift is given in secret or with tact, they will not be offended.

*Brownies inhabitating any place will protect against invasions of goblins and many other malicious little beings.

Thats about the same information I have on these incrediable beings too. The also have a welsh versiom called Bwca, and a Scottish version called Urisks, although they are all basically the same thing. They say if you have a Brownie helping you in your home that your home is truly blessed. They love animals as well and do unfinished chores aroubd the home such as mowing, caring for the laying hen, tending to sheep and cattle. They bring good luck to the family and enjoy gifts of milk and honey cakes, but abhor wages or money given to them as payment. I myself find them a fascinaniating elemental, and am glad you did this this thread wysperanu to educate more people about these wonderful beings! Thanks! :bubbles:

Is there a specific way to attract them, Geministar, do you know?

I wasn't sure if it's an "either we're there or we're not" or if you can actually attract them to your home.

I suppose I should try to find out if they're around already... hmm, which brings me to a whole new question, how would I go about that?

The only way I know of that you can attract Brownies into your home is to literally ask for them. From what I can recall, if you already have an affinity for elementals to begin with such as talking to fairies and such then its easier to call them to you. I think you would just go outside, or someplace in nature, get in a meditative state and tell the Brownies you wish for them to come and stay in your home, then I would leave them an offering of sweetcakes or some kind of cake. Then just wait and see what happens. Actually I think I'm gonna try it myself soon, and if I get some results I'll let you know. I do know they are eaisily offended if they are ignored, or if you try to pay them wages such as money or gold. They just want some attention and sweets in return! Please realize some of this is my own thoughts and some of it is stuff I have read. It does seem from what I do know, that they make a very good addition to any household. You cant beat a live in guest that loves to clean! Thats just my kind of roomate!
