Well, our area enjoyed some unusually great weather for November yesterday - temperatures near 80 degrees F - but as usually happens with abnormal weather, it did not end well. I got a call in the middle of the night from my mother that there were bad storms and possible tornadoes headed our way. I immediately got up and lit a candle and did some protective work; either it worked, or perhaps we were just lucky, but the storm split and went around us... unfortunately, some nearby towns were not so lucky.
There were some trailer park homes leveled in Vanderburgh county, along with extensive damage in Warrick county as well. Some fatalities have been reported in both counties, and Warrick county has been declared in a State of Emergency. Please keep the people in those areas in your thoughts and prayers, if you will. Thank you,
:hugz:

Indiana and Kentucky are quite a ways from Kansas, but I had this "knowing" yesterday that it was tornado weather. My sympathies go out to those who lost family and friends and property to this killer storm. Sending energies for the rescue workers and clean up workers and health care workers and mental health counselors.
PS - glad you're safe Auntie Boo.

Yesterday I saw a yellow glow in my sky. Sighs now I know why. You are far from me, but I send you and all of the people there energies and strength. Peace and calm and balance.
I have lived in tornado alley in Alabama and went through one. Never again I hope.
Blessings to you Boofy. :hugz:

Last night, while driving in the rain, I had a vision of a tornado.

From MSN home page this morning:
Indiana officials said the sirens sounded twice, but many in the mobile home park said they did not hear them. Emergency officials say the tornado warning sirens are loud enough to warn people who are outside but might not reach those tucked in bed.
Why the bloody hell not? Why aren't the sirens louder?
Ok, very few tornados hit in the middle of the night, but I know if I'm indoors during the day and the washer is running or the tv is on or the furnace is blowing (or all of those things at the same time), unless the wind is blowing the sound of the siren towards us - I can't hear it.
And it's less than a block away from our house. Why aren't the sirens loud enough to let people know that their lives are in danger?!
I'm thinking about writing a letter... to the newspaper? ... to the tv news stations ... to the director of emergency preparedness for our county? ... for our state? ... to the governor? ... to my senator?

The people effected by the tornado are in my prayers. I live where there are a lot of tornadoes every summer...so it is scarry to think of the damage and life lost.

The sirens are no good. Modern trailers are pretty sound proof when the windows are closed. I am very close to the sirens and can hardly hear them at all. And, when they make an announcement it sounds all garbled. You can't understand a word they say. This is worse for older people when the hearing starts to fade.
Don't know that they would help much, anyway. Where are we supposed to go? Guess, I could get in the closet or something. But, it isn't as if there is anywhere to run to. We don't have any basements or access to any shelters open to the public on a moment's notice.
Fortunately, I have a huge double wide that is more stable and I had it built with 2 x6's instead of 2 x4's.
Unfortunately, even though I only paid $53,000 for it (I knew someone) the state says the bluebook value is $73,000 and they tax me accordingly even after I protested! They wanted to tax me for a $77,000 home!
Trailor trash isn't what it used to be.
