I heard that there are some lost years of Jesus and that he spent some years travelling to Buddhist and Hindu countries, learning from them. Does anyone know if this is true, since i wasn't sure (i didn't know how you'd get from Palestine/Israel to India/Tibet. On this site Jesus the lost years (http://reluctant-messenger.com/issa.htm), it says that Jesus is known as

Today they still know him and love him as St. Issa. Their 'buddha' .

Do you think he might have learnt some mystical teachings from them, also i heard that he was part of a Jewish mystical group called the Essenes, is this true and is there anything about their beliefs (like were they more Jewish Gnostics, did they use the Kabbalah, etc).

Thanks.

There is that...theoary...and it is possible that he did travel as there is some evidence that the Persians traded with india and the Israelites did trade with the Persians...not a big stretch to think that occasionally an Israel;ite travelled there and back again. Howevber the one wrong view of this theory is that there were certainly linguyistic barriors...as Hebrew and Aramaic are sooo different from the Sanskrit languages. Another major problem is that if you are inluenced by Hinduism and Buddhism it does show an obvious mark. Really though we lknow nothing of Jesus' early life and the story of jesus is very much a tale with composite parts. I for one would like to say that it could be possible, but on the other hand I think it's highly improbable.

Good post though, got me thinking hehe.

I posted this link in a previous thread:
http://reluctant-messenger.com/christ.htm
it will be of relevance to this thread.

It is quite possible that Jesus did travel to India. If anyone has doubts about the possible achievements of Jesus, then read the last sentence in the gospel of John.

I agree. There are books on the beginings of Christianity by Jewish historians, and they say that there isn't anything in the Jesus stories that coesn't come straight out of Judaism. According to them, it's probable that he recieved rabbinical training and became one of the many travelling Jewish preachers of that time. (John the Baptist was one of them.)
Every religion has such charismatic teachers and preachers - look at the history of Christianity.

[repost from one of the clone threads]
I think it's a pretty fantasy, and have heard it a lot, but I really do not see it.
I am a Buddhist, and was raised Christian, and while it would be easy to think they teach the same things, the points behind them are actually very, very different.

The likeness between Christ's teachings and the teachings of The Buddha are really only very surface and base. The core of their teachings are very, very different.

In some ways though there can be a LOT of interpretation that can make linkages. But you also have to look at such a thing as theological evolution. As time goes on and cultures begin to interact, ideas are shared in a very subvert way and carried through to whoever else that culture meets. So for example the idea of Monotheism wasnt heard of in india until probably either the Zoroastrian influence. That influence as they were in persia also influenced ancient Judaism which affected Christinaity and Islam. The idea of Jesus going to india for training well...it just doesnt bear any real theological or historical backing...sure you can go to india and find some obscure folk tale but also many figures in india at the time may bear resembalnce to jesus. However may it be known though that the current image of Jesus as a white long haired man is a composite from a more ancient time...and really scientists believe he was more brown, shorter hair and no beard...anyways.

Doesn't the Koran teach that Jesus faked his death, then travelled the "hippie trail" to India?
