Does anyone know anything about Kemetic witchcraft, i've heard that magic was a big part of the Ancient Egyptian religion and life, but did they practice witchcraft (or an Kemetic equivalent), if there was, what was the position to witches and witchcraft, was it encouraged and were there any practices that exlusive to Ancient Egypt.
And finally, are there any books published on Ancient Egyptian magic.
Thanks.

You had a few answers in the thread about AE magic you started a while ago: http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=117031
Maybe you could bump it to see if other people have something to add and have someone close this one?
ETA: I added a book recommendation to your December thread, hope it will help :)

Egyptians didn't practice witchcraft in a sense that I think that you might be talking about. I'm sure they probably didn't practice witchcraft at all because that term wasn't in their vocabulary or how Wiccans practice witchcraft is different than the ancients practiced. The term for magic is Heka, which is also meaning authoritative speech as well as magic. I hope this helps.

Not sure whether I should be writing here, or in the other thread, but anywho...
AE witchcraft isn't really witchcraft in the sense that we tend to define it now-a-days. The egyptians practiced heka, which is more of a spoken word type of thing. They used a variety of amulets, wands, and written words to perform their heka. Usually, heka was performed by priests and potentially local "wise women/men".
You can read an online version of Rittner's "Mechanics of AE Magic" if you wanted. I can post a link here for anyone who is interested. There is also Geraldine Pinch's "Magic in AE" as well.
