Carolina Mystery Beast Is a Rare Abnormal Fox, Experts Say
A mystery animal is foraging in the grassy fields around a North Carolina company.
"I've never seen anything like this," said Jerri Durazo, a Tyco Electronics employee who photographed the animal.
The slender creature has a kangaroo-shaped head, big upright ears, and a long ratlike tail. From a distance the animal looks hairless, but closer inspection reveals that its coat is a sleek grayish brown.

Heh. The "experts" haven't had a specimen to work on.
They're guessing. Or worse.
This thing is just as likely to be an alien brainsucker as an "abnormal fox".
Just saying.

I'd like to knit it a sweater or maybe a large heated rock, the kind reptiles use.

There is a report on these creatures at Whitley Streiber's Unkown Country Website which includes forensic data on a couple of specimens

Whatever is afflicting these canids makes me more uneasy than thought of them being blood suckers from outer space

It does look like a fox without hair to me...I think it should be left alone...we interfere with too many things

I'm not 100% sure why they shot them.. but living in Texas I can tell you that coyotes are pretty much fair game.. the excuses they give is rabies, and threat to livestock.
We have coyotes who get a chicken now and then and who eat the cat's food.. but our great pyreneese keeps them out of the pens... and I pretty much figure that if one of the chickens decided to spend the night out of the pen then they must have a death wish... the wings aren't clipped on ours and they can fly up onto the fence, into the trees etc... so I can't blame a coyote for eating one if it stays out...
And some people in general will just kill something because they don't know what it is... go figure
