ok here is my question
I made my own runes, (I painted on stones), a few years ago. Now after so much use they are getting kinda hard to read. I used small stones and the paint is coming off in some places.
So should I take the paint all off and start over, should I thank and bury the stones, should I???
Also what should I have done better to not have this problem now?
thanks in advance

To not have this problem, carve your Runes... in wood, in clay, in stone (if you are so equipped)...
Repaint 'em, & seal 'em with clear nail polish. It's hard to use up a rock.

Rick thank you!
I had read (back when I made them) not to seal them up. But now that I have used them for so long I don't see why not. It was nice to hear you (read you:)) say that.

i tend to let the paint rub off as it will. . . whenever it does, i can repaint them and in the process recharge the stones and the astral counterpart

Oh well aren't you the smart one!
I kinda like that way of looking at it. I like change and yet the stones would still have all the energy hmmm.....
now to seal or not to seal:);):)

Hi Hope
Many people think that you should not seal a runestone with varnish etc as it will ruin the natural flow of energy. However if you use a dremel or hobby engraver to etch the rune and then paint the rune in the gap the paint will last much longer. You can pick up cheaply a "Swiss" glass engraver which is just a stylus and diamond tipped point from an Art Store.
If you want to seal it then take a fine paint brush and use either nail or an outdoor gloss varnish. Remember if you feel you cannot connect with the stones or think you have made a mistake in varnishing you can always peel it off.
Alternatively you can use for sealing all over hobby acrylic spray varnish that wargamers use. This is very hard wearing.
Personally I use wooden runes that are pyrographed and sealed with beeswax and I have a second set I made from jet and sealed in the wargamers type varnish, due to the runes being inlaid with gold. I use both for different purposes and they work equally well.

This sounds cool ... i think i'll make my own runes now.
Are you going to seal them or engrave them or engrave then paint?

...one more observation on this, then I'll say no more...
There is nothing in Rune Lore or Tradition about 'sealing' your Runes, yea or nay... sounds like something that Ralph Blum or Kenneth Meadows might have made up... be that as it may... trust me, a little varnish or nail polish WILL NOT block Rune energy...

I didnt engrave mine and sealed them, just painted them with Acrylic then went over them with nail varnish and they work brilliantly for me and hasnt blocked any rune energy:)

well I honestly don't see how the seal could hold back the energy on my part or the stones.
Totally honesty I know my limits and I do not plan to try to engrave the stones.
I think I am going to clean them all off and repaint them and take clear nail polish and "seal" over the paint. I am not going to dip the whole stone in.
I have been thinking alot about doing a new set out of wood.
In addition to the stone set. RICK I hope you will answer again in this thread cause here is a new question. :)
How do you all feel about using two sets. Part of me thinks it is silly because I only need one. But I do readings for other people and have thought maybe I would use my stones for me like always but only use the "new" ones for other people. But then does that really make the most sense??
Can you all tell my little head is struggling with this one?
I am open to any opinion!

Hi Hope, I have have more than one set. Currently, I have 3 sets that I use regularly. A set made from Hazel wood, a stone set made from stones I've collected & another one made from clay. I paint my stone set with nail polish & sealed them with clear nail polish too. I think there's a thread somewhere about making your own set...it has a pic of Silver Venus' jasper set. Really nice!
Also, if you're cleaning the paint off your old set & repainting them, it might be a good time to give the stones a bit of energy cleansing as well. Sort of starting fresh, so to speak.

Not to fret, darlin'! You can use a different set each day of the week, if you wish... if you want to use one set for yourself, & another for others, well, I can find no flaw in your idea...

Me neither Hope I think its a great idea as your keeping your personal set with just your energy.
I also agree with Wild about cleasning them before you repaint, you can pass them through incense like sage, or if your quick enough.. use the full moons energy :)
Ill try and find the thread Wild suggested (thanks for mentioning my runes hun!).
Ok found a fair few here

The point of one runeset or two or more......I agree totally with Rick, you can have as many as you wish. Iam never out the workshop so constantly making sets. In a previous mail I said I have two sets regularly used, I use each for different reasons, same with Tarot, I use two packs, I use which ever I feel the need to, I also have an old Ottoman pack of cards from way way back I employ at times. The only problem is when you cannot connect to your Runes or Cards, then you can make or look for one that does.
I like your ideas for cleansing the sets SV, another idea is to bury them in the ground or hang them from high up on an ash tree at a sacred site. At the time of the Full Moon or on a day Sacred to a particular God or Goddess, Wednesday for Odin etc this is very potent. Just make sure no one can pinch them!
See ya!
