I have a slight worry that has popped up since we found out we are definitely moving to Guam in August.

http://mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=130740

So far I cannot find a single Heathen on the whole island, listed online anyways, a few Wiccans & Ecclectics but no True folk. If their are others there they sure aren't listed as any group or a personal anywhere like on the AFA, Irminsul, Witchvox etc. The only people listed on Witchvox are either Ecclectic, kitchen & green witches & Wiccans and even then theres only 12. Not even a yahoo group. Looks like the closest kindreds are in Australia & Hawaii.

So it looks for now that I may be the only Heathen there, the island is predominantly Catholic & Protestant. I'm going to have to work hard to stay connected to the rest of the Heathen world from there for 3 years.

Quoting another Heathen site....

You do not need to belong to a Kindred, Hearth, Asatru 'church', or what-have-you to be a Heathen, although most Heathens enjoy fellowship with others and the opportunity for learning and community organisations offer.

Can you give me your advice on the best ways I can stand on my own on that island and still be connected to the Heathen communities of the rest of the world?

Viking Magazine has stopped printing, do you know of any other Heathen type magazines that I may be able to order from there? I know I'll have the internet, my books & ofcourse the great sea around me (perfect chance to honor Germanic Sea Deities) not to mention the gods & my ancestors. It just seems it may be hard being the only one and so far away from everyone else, especially since I have only been actively/consciously studying the old ways for a year now.

I guess just do what I've been doing? I haven't had any local Heathens here either, just other types of Pagans.

If you join The Troth, you get their quartly magazine, Idunna; currently, membership is $20, but goes up to $25 June 1st (yipes! I gotta get in my renewal!).

Seapearls, I don't think you're really going to have any major problems... call it a hunch, but I think you'll do just fine there, and wouldn't be surprised if you don't meet a few military-type Heathens in Guam (hey, we've got our own resident Naval Heathen, Hangatyr13, right here on MW).

Ah Rick I knew you'ld reply. Thanks. I heard about the Troth magazine Idunna and wondered how to get it. Well I won't catch it in time before they up the price but I will contact them and make sure they will mail it that far.

And thanks for the hunch.

i've found that while overseas shipping can be hard to get, shipping to military addresses is a lot easier. the sender gets charged the same as if the address were in the lower 48. :)

Hey seapearls,

Sorry to hear about your problem. I hope that you will do okay in Guam. Have you tried posting at milipagan message boards? http://www.milpagan.org/cgi-bin/wwwboard/discus.cgi?pg=topics It may seem like a bit of a long shot but hey, who knows?

I know how you feel. I live in a very hippie area which I would think would mean there'd be a lot of resources for me out there but most people are into Eastern religions which while cool really aren't for me. I guess that's why the internet is so great, because people from all over the world can chat and discuss. You can chat with me, if you want ^_^

Thanks Lunar, your right. Other than all the Catholicism on Guam I've read there are some temples for Eastern religions too which although nice & interesting aren't personal bag. Ofcourse I'd love to chat with you. :)
