Wep Renpet card exchange?

Wep Renpet is getting closer and I was thinking that it would be fun to organise a New Year card exchange between us MW Egyptian folks.

Of course it is not like we are going to find Wep Renpet greeting cards at our local drugstore, so we may have to customize or even handmake our cards, but it is part of the fun, right? :D

Let me know who is interested and we will iron out the details once we know how many people would like to participate.
If we are only a handful, everyone could write to everyone. The more cards in our mailboxes the better, wheee! :boing:
If many people sign up, then I will randomly draw names and let you know by PM who you have been paired with.

ETA: Guidelines for our card exchange

- Deadline to sign up: Tomorrow, Sunday June 18.

- Deadline to send your cards out: August 1.


- Please PM me your snail mail address so that I can draw names tomorrow evening.
Important! Please let me know if your envelope should be left plain, so that no one gets in trouble with their family/roommates

- I will PM you the contact details for the person you will be writing to. The person who will send you a card will be different from the one you will write to... just because I like to make things complicated and besides, it is more fun if you don't know who will send you a card!


Most importantly, have fun creating your card and may Djehuty and Seshat guide your hand!

Don't worry, it is not going to be formal at all... we have so many different paths here (Tamerans, Isians, Kemetics, eclectics working with Egyptian deities), everyone is welcome to put their own twist on what a Wep Renpet card should look like! :santasmil

Not everyone agrees on the actual or "official" date of Wep Renpet either, so I will probably pick August 1 as a deadline to send the cards out.

The only little rule I am thinking of is to leave the envelope plain or at least to avoid really obvious religious embellishments... some people may not be out to their family/roommates/partners and I do not want anyone to get in trouble _inabox_

There are no "official" themes, really. Here are a few ideas I had while brainstorming for my card:
- For specific New Year imagery: You could calligraphy "Happy New Year / Wep Renpet Nefret" or draw a symbol that reminds you of the New Year/new beginnings (the notched palm branch that means "Year" or the scarab beetle, for instance).
-More general Egyptian themes: Pick a symbol like Ankh or the Eye of Heru, or a representation of a Name of Netjer Who is important to you.

Don't worry, there really is no right or wrong way to do this... no one is going to judge our cards based on how historically correct or how artistic they are... at least they'd better not because I am pretty terrible at drawing myself :lol:

The only goal is to show our fellow Egyptian path followers that we are thinking of them during our New Year celebrations :)

Personally I am working on something whimsical but the Names I serve seem to be OK with it. They know I am silly :hehehehe:

If there's one thing that has bothered me about being Kemetic, it's that I don't do anything to celebrate the holidays. I have a hard time feeling connected to them. And the one time I asked on the HoN boards how people celebrate/observe Pesdjentiu (New Moon) and Tepy-Semdet (Full Moon) festivals each month, the question went completely unanswered and got buried beneath mounds of other threads.

I think this card exchange is a nice start for me to get (re?)connected to our holidays.

I know, it is sometimes difficult for me too... every year I start thinking about Wep Renpet around June because the weather is improving and we are visibly entering another cycle. That, to me, is tangible enough that I can get excited about it.

But then the actual date comes and goes and it does not feel any different from any other day... people around me do not relate to it, there are no decorations in the streets and I do not get the day off... what sort of holiday is that? :lol:

Seriously though, this is the main reason why I wanted to start this card exchange: as it is highly unlikely that our friends and families will ever send us a card for our New Year, I thought we should take matters into our own hands and do something to make it all feel a little more festive.
And who knows? If it can help people to get to know each other better and make us closer as a community here on the boards, then everything will be in Ma'at as far as I am concerned :smile:

Wep Ronpet is a great holiday for me and my little group 'cause we celebrate it on Lughnasa. (we're Kemetic Wiccan)

I understand that the Egyptians had only 3 seasons, and those were primarily determined by the innundation of the Nile... but I dont live there, and the Nile is quite a ways away... Here I see 4 distinct seasons, and being the Netjer is present in everything, I honor the cyclical changes It/They undergo in my local ecosystem. So we follow the Wheel of the Year primarily, and celebrate the Kemetic festivals which are associated with the Names we are closest to on the prescribed KO dates.


Yinepu/Wepwawet and Nut would be my fave Netjeru.

My approach is more reconstructionist so I try and celebrate the festivals around the date the Ancient Egyptians would have, but I do agree that it makes them feel a little more "abstract" and less easy to relate to.
Opet always makes me feel wistful, as the Inundation is gone forever, even in Egypt...

You will see that one day the Wep Renpet merchandising will start right after the Feast of Wesir!

I promise mine is making its way slowly into the mail... its just been hard to get around to it, what with all the 10/12 hour shifts lately... o_O`` Craziness. Someone doesn't know how to schedule events worth anything... why would they stick us with a dog show and a Masons convention, in the same weekend!? I should lace all the crab with something...

Things have been very busy here. Today I finally have a whole day to work on my cards. I had thought of ideas for all of them, so now it is just a matter of painting the cards and sending them off. If all goes well, I will be sending them into the mail tomorrow. :ahhhh:

If you have not received your card yet, just a little more patience, it should get there shortly. I reckon around August 10 at the latest for international mail :)

Has anyone else received their card? I am getting a little worried as we have only heard from a few people so far and I do not want people to be disappointed or feel left out.

Speaking of which, I do hope that the card I sent did not get lost in the mail... it has been two weeks now... why oh why must letters take that long between Canada and the US?

I'm still waiting on one card, and I have not heard anything about the cards I have sent out. I am having a lot of trouble getting my mail right now, though I'm sure it's sitting in my mail box at home (tried twice to get forwarding service.. got the confirmation letters here, but nothing else..). :(
I hope my cards did make it to where they were supose to get to. Crazy mail system.. _inabox_
