View Full Version : Not Kemetic but Honoring Deities?

Just a quick question for you all. How many people are there here who are not Kemetic Orthodox but honor Egyptian Dieties?

Also, if you are Kemetic Orthodox, what's your opinion of people who don't follow a strictly Kemetic path but honor them?

I ask because, well, I'm not Kemetic and I don't see myself as becoming Kemetic any time soon, but for a little while I've had three Kemetic Gods clamoring at me. They wouldn't hush until I moved around my altar to accomodate them all, and a fourth wants in now too. Goodness.

I am Kemetic Orthodox, although you will notice that even I don't follow a "striclty Kemetic path" as such. This is because KO distinguishes between the personal faith and the structured faith. (Which I think more paths should!) This leaves me free, in my personal faith, to explore my spirituality as I see fit. Wheeee.

As for non-Kemetic people who honor Kemetic gods... well, see above answer. :) I could almost argue that such a person is Kemetic without knowing it, just with a strikingly distinct personal path. But I won't really argue that. Instead, I'll just say this: it is a matter between you and Netjer. If the Names you are honoring feel, well, honored, and you the same in return, then that can't be anything short of wonderful!

OK, this may just be a matter of semantics, but I see myself as Kemetic, even though I am not Kemetic Orthodox.

Actually, given my slightly eccentric tendencies (I am, after all, an Aquarian :D), I think that "Kemetic Unorthodox" would be a very good label for me :hehehehe:

But anyways, what I mean by this is that I follow a reconstructionist approach, which is why I call myself a Kemetic as opposed to Tameran, Isian or Egyptian pagan.
However, I am not a member of the House of Netjer (or any other organisation for that matter) and therefore I am not Kemetic Orthodox.

I really do not feel that labels matter all that much. Honouring Netjer by living one's life according to Ma'at, that is what matters most in my opinion.
I hope that your connection with the Kemetic Gods will blossom into a beautiful relationship. I know I am very blessed to have Them in my life

May I ask which Gods who are calling you?

I am an Irish Reconstructionist.

I worship the Irish Pantheon, but I honor several Deities outside of that Pantheon. Among them is Anubis.

To me, my Irish Gods and Goddesses are family.
The Morrigan is my mother.
The Dagda is my father.
Bigid is my favourite aunt.
Manannan Mac Lir is my favourite uncle.

The Deities I honor are like really good friends, or distant relatives.
So Anubis to me seems like a distant uncle right now. He seems to have a liking to me and I think he is trying to teach me something, or at least create a bond with me. However, he respects my spiritual path and my Irish Gods. So it works out well. Same with Odin and Hel from the Norse Pantheon.

You certainly may! First it was Sekhmet-Hethert, then Yinepu, Bast and now Djehuty. Which makes perfect sense to me, but my, they're not quiet! Especially Sekhmet and Bast. I read about them all for a while before I admitted they were trying to get my attention. My hesitance sort of amused Yinepu.

A short and sweet answer from another Kemetic Orthodox:

Whatever works for you. :)

I'm Kemetic Orthodox, and in my view what you do is between you and your Deities - Whoever they may be. It doesn't matter to me if you are following a different branch of Egyptian reconstructionism, are a Tameran Wiccan, eclectic pagan, or whatever else. I don't think we're all meant to be in the same path, and Egyptian Deities speak to many through many different traditions. They're not the only Deities to do so, either. :)

Not a Kemetist here.

I am Maakheru which is a spiritual following of the ancient ways of living a path that is right and true. As I strive to find the meaning of "right and true", I follow a path of individuality therefore, a structured religious path such as KO is not for me.

Netjer knows I rant a lot about showing the proper respect to deities...

But really, what you do is between you and Them. If you have a real relationship with Them, They'll let you know what They want you to do.

(Incidentally, not every Kemetic is Kemetic Orthodox, just like not every Christian is Catholic.)

I'm shyly sticking my toe into the study waters... (hopefully not my foot-in-mouth)..

My delight started with a piece of Lapis shaped like a heart. I am making oracle stones out of sodalite based on Ellen Cannon Reed's directions in her Circle of Isis book. When I washed the stones, certain songs were hummed.

In my personal path, a bit of the Nuit sweetness curls into the midnight blue of the Lapis heart. I find Geb's earthy and strong self is in a streaky stone with gray, gold and reddish streaks...There's something of Ra and Shu in a gold athame. There's the light of Ra in the golden blade, a touch of Shu is the striped handle...The athame is called "Rei" (pronounced Ray)

I found a beautiful winged scarab today.

They don't live in my study, they come with me or reside in my kitchen (hearth) area. My study and garden have lots of Shinto-related things and I'm filling a separate shelf with Egyptian things.

They feel like Grandparents and Great Grandparents of things that I've looked at...that's a feeling, not verifiable as a fact.

I apologize if this is all off, but reading their stories in different books have helped me spot more 'ancient roots' in certain Western and Eastern bits I knew or studied. I don't know where this will lead. But I feel I may be finding a small cabinet soon for the kitchen.

Regards,

Cerulean_Damselfly

P.S. While this website refers to various colors used in different glyphs and times, I'm using it as a guide...I'm using white-out on sodalite and outlining the detail of the glyph with a fine colored sharpie on the white.

I was wondering, what is the sign that your gods send to you? I mean, how do they communicate with you?

Do you hear them? See them in a dream? Feel them? What is their mode of communication to you?

Wesir and Aset came into my life a while back through a dream, and recently I've begun to feel drawn to Heru-sa-Aset and Yinepu, and I'm not KO either. :)

Just came accross this, and after thinking it over, I'm Not Kemetic. I belief whole heartedly in Dieties in my own way. You know what I mean?
