Do you have a Kitchen altar?
Do you have a Kitchen/Hearth Deity?
I dont have my own kitchen YET (I live with my grandparents and GODS FORBID I walk into my Grandma's kitchen with any intentions of cooking myself...), however, in a few months semi and I will be married and moved into our own place. There I plan on setting up a small kitchen altar dedicated to one of my Patron Goddesses -- Brigid. She is also a Goddess of the Hearth in Irish mythology.
semi mentioned to me that he already got me little things and statues to add to my Kitchen altar, and he plans on getting me a small statue of a cow (symbolizing Brigid) which I will also use for this specific altar.
So I am interested in hearing if any of you have a Kitchen altar. What do you have on it? Do you have a specific Deity you work with in your kitchen witchery?
Oooo I'd also love to see pictures if anyone has them :D

I have a "central" altar for our House Guardian...a wooden shelf, an old silver creamer and sugery both filled with sand for incense and a candle, a celtic cross hangs on the wall, and a rose quartz is suspended above it all

I keep a very simple kitchen altar, just a candle dedicated to Hestia. Right now my space is too limited for much more- I'm planning on a painting of Her at some point, because I've yet to find a print that does Her justice. :)

I have a little altar in my kitchen to Heset, the Ancient Egyptian goddess of nourishment.

It's not really an altar, just a small space with three candles. I like using wine bottles as candle holders...I love the dripping wax. I don't burn them on the shelf that they are on (curtains are behind them). But as I prepare a meal for my family, I move them to the kitchen counter and light them, focus and center myself on the task at hand: nurturing and nourishing my husband and kids. It's very simple, yet feels very powerful to me.

I'm with Morr here. I have plenty of ideas for an altar, not just in the kitchen, but a main altar as well. The only problem is finding the space in the current location. I may have a new, bigger place towards the end of the year where all this may be possible, however.

I have some trivets to represent the elements, (You use them all in the kitchen!) and a nifty iron one with a pentecal in center. I have them hanging on the wall.

I have a small altar to Brigid in my kitchen. I made the candle holder, offering plate and Cow-Snake Brigid statue out of sculpy. The little copperish blob is a chunk of bog iron. Someday I'd like to find a real copper offering plate and candle holder.

Unfortunately, I can't have a Kitchen Altar, but when I'm cooking, I usually ask Huchi(Japanese Goddess of Fire, Hearth and Volcanic Eruptions) for Her blessings and assistance.

I have one in my kitchen/entry area:
http://www.care2.com/c2c/photos/view/142/793589964/629517301/197676631.html
as well as the much larger one elsewhere.
I use salt for the sea,
roots for the land (what the star is made out of),
and feathers for sky.
I use salt quite a lot for protection---I add rowan berries and StJohn's Wort to it. The salt is sea salt so it, like the alder twigs with cones, stands for the limminal space.

My current situation (living in a shed) is a little cramped for a kitchen altar, but the kitchen witch reigns supreme.

That's so lovely! And inspiring! I have no room in my kitchen for an altar, so I've been toying with the idea of putting up a shelf to use as one. I think tonight when we go shopping I'm going to make a stop in the craft aisle...:hahugh:

Thanks! I got a pack of two shelves like that for 10$ on sale at Khols. They're just the right size for a little altar :D

My fiance and I are pretty nomadic right now, we seem to move every year, so I don't hang things on walls or set up elaborate things very often. When I cook, I bring a candle in the kitchen to light and say a blessing over my food. That's about as far as my altar goes for the moment. But oh, the pictures in my head, the plans I have, it shall be wonderful when we finally find a permanent home and actually get things set up! :hahugh:

I don't have a kitchen altar right now but I would love to make one. Right now I have a plant that I've been growing on a windowsill and an incense burner. My ferret's cage is in the dining area so that's the main reason for the incense burner. :hahugh: I think if I had my own house and didn't live with room mates I'd probably have something much better going. The candle idea is nice though...perhaps I'll do something like that.

My cooking ends up like that sometimes, too!
I don't have a dedicated area but have small things dotted about here and there, a piece of wood, a candle, a goblet...

I used to have a kitchen altar, but since my living situation has changed, I don't have on up right now. As soon as I get my own place again, you can bet your bottom I'll have my own little kitchen altar :).

This is my altar to Saule, the Lithuanian sun goddess. I have a cedarwood-rose scented candle for fire, the incense holder for air, two pretty stones for earth, and a brown cowrie shell for water. The goblet has a rose on it, which is sacred to Saule, and is, to me, reminiscent of the jug She pours the sunlight from.

I hope to some day have a kitchen of my own where I can put up an altar to a hearth goddess. I wasn't ever interested in goddesses associated with more 'domestic' activities until this past year, when I read a prayer to a hearth goddess, her name derived from Hestia or Vesta, at http://www.ceisiwrserith.com/pier/deities.htm#15 I figure I should honour the divinities of household and farm as well as wilderness.
Cheers,

You know I've actually thought of setting my altar up in my kitchen. The house we are renting really does not have a lot of storage, and very little bench space or room for that matter. There's a lovely little built in alcove above the stove that I could see working quite well. Never really thought too much about the Hedge Witchness of it all though... yeah forgive me, it's late and I'm rambling about nothing over here...

I have what I consider an altar in my kitchen. It is pretty much the top of my refrigerator(which isnt tall/live in apartment). It consists of a Ginseng Bonsai Tree, a mortar and pestle, two candles that i light when cooking, a few figurines I have collected and my favorite kitchen knifes in there holder.
I hope to soon be in a place with enough space to dedicate to my kitchen altar.

Before all the moving, I had a small area of my kitchen set up in honor Brighid. I'm glad that you posted this Morr, as it's spurred me to get myself back in gear in that respect. I had been trying to figure out where to set up her altar - and there it is!

We don't have an altar in the kitchen, but my roommate and I have metal sun/moon things on the wall, and lots of Witch figures (hanging ones, statuettes, etc.) and a pentacle hanging over the stove.
My roommate does more cooking magic than I do. But when we move into a bigger place, we will likely have a really nice kitchen altar. :)

It's funny that you mention you have an aloe plant in your kitchen. I don't have an altar. I believe the entire room is an altar, actually my entire home. I have a broom hanging from the kitchen wall for protection, I have a very small cauldron on one side of the room, an aloe plant, candle, a goddess icon and an onion on my window sill. I want the entire room to be welcoming.

I dont have a kitchen alter but I am planning on adding one. It is going to decorate the blank walls of my kitchem. I am focusing more on Brigid then Hestia, because I have been feeling an affinity toward Brigid the last year. I do like Hestia though.

I don't have an altar either, but I keep some candles around to burn when I cook (and after) to help focus energy. That, and I keep Brigit in mind (:

Yay another Texan. :D
ahem. anyway... I'm glad this one got brought back up.
I mentioned a desire to paint Hestia back when, and I've got a much improved kitchen altar going. A ceramic bowl with stones and a candle, two small bowls for offerings, and this painting of Hestia (http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/40765914/?qo=28&q=by%3Aneheti&qh=sort%3Atime+-in%3Ascraps).
It's spread through the kitchen somewhat, but I love it.

I don't have one, seeing as how I don't have my own kitchen. We currently live with my in-laws and setting up something like that would never be allowed. So, I'm hoping that once we get our own place or something close to it, to set up one of my own. I'll probably take a small statue of Hestia, a gift from nature, and some candles. I would love to have a wide enough windowsill over the sink or something along those lines to set it up.

I used to have a little altar-ish space in my kitchen, and unused corner, but it got over-run with kitchen things, knife block, mugs, cans of powdered milk, ect. I don't have a patron kitchen goddess, I'd love to feel one come to me, maybe today i will clean that corner out and redo the altar.
BTW- I'm so proud, i made a harmony hanging for my house, it hangs right in the center of the building, and it's so pretty, I hope it works
