How did you get them to come here??

Authors are real people just like the rest of us. Many are online just like other folk.

MysticWicks does seem to be a good community for attracting authors though. Perhaps it's the friendly environment overall, maybe it's something else.

very true, -they come here of their own accord.

Another thing to remember is that just like other users on the messageboard, some are more active posting here than others.

Some authors post a lot and some only post once in a while. If you post a question to a specific author you might or might not get a reply here. No one here is required to post or even visit the site regularly.

Yeah, I didn't mean how did you "make" them. I'm still in shock that they really do stuff like this. I know their normal people. But I also know how busy they are to. I'm just glad to have found a place to ask them questions! I never thought I'd get that chance.

Also those areas of the forum are also for any discussion regarding the listed author's books and things relating to them. I've only seen four of the authors on here though:
Raven Grimassi (http://www.mysticwicks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=66)
Deborah Lipp (http://www.mysticwicks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=70)
Yasmine Galenorn (http://www.mysticwicks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=120)
Christopher Penczak (http://www.mysticwicks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=194)

I think Ms. Ravenwolf wouldn't feel welcome on this site, seeing the many threads about her work. She's probably heard about this place and looked every now and then, though.

Several of them have very active websites too, like Deborah Lipp. I read her blog all the time ;)

The author's circle is one of my favorite parts of MW. Tammy Sullivan is very active here too, and she's wonderful, as is Yazzy. Gotta love it!!

Real authors.. cool. Allow me to be skeptical and wonder if they are paid plants here to raise interest and sales for the authors and conduct research into the market.

However - If it really is you guys I apologise, no offence meant.

I think you have an unrealistic picture of how wealthy authors are and how they do their work. Especially Pagan authors -- how many can honestly say they've made buckets of money from their writing and can afford to pay others to pose as them on the web to do market research?

I second that, Ben. It's an absurd charge. In many cases, writing pagan books might as well be considered "charity" for all the money it brings in. I've even heard people charge Gardner with wanting to make bucks off Wicca. These sorts of charges are a little out of touch with the actual reality.

*laughs* They're really. Or at least one of them is. I've had the pleasure of meeting her in person.

Buckets of money?

After 2 years of publishing in dozens of magazines and launching a book, (which makes me a pretty successful poet) I have earned exactly enough money to go out for an evening to a redneck bar and buy 2 rounds of drinks and a bucket of chicken wings.....

Like Dragoncrone... I would follow a trail of M&Ms anywhere... hehehe..

Thus, I have to be my own unpaid plant. (see my book at http://home.surewest.net/aphasiapress/)

While I write quite a bit and support myself largely with writing educational scientific pieces, VERY VERY few people who write books are able to make a living at creative writing...it's a joyous hobby, I would starve if it was my career.

Yeah, more than one of them, in fact. I know quite a few of those named up above. In fact, one of them is the reason I got on here in the first place (Hi Dorothy, should you ever see this...)

Boy, do you ever have that right. I've got two Pagan books in print (and hopefully more before the end of this year) and if I had to live off my royalties I couldn't afford to live under a bridge. I'd probably have to go live in a lake...

Writing for the Pagan community is certainly a labor of love. Although there are a few Pagan authors out there who can live off their books, they are very rare and I'm certain you know all of their names.

For the rest of us, it's just a matter doing what we love and trying to share it with others.

Maybe I can sell the movie rights to my incense making book! I can see Tom Cruise (who better than a Scientologist?) in the lead role of "Master Incense Maker" as he struggles through getting a shipment of substandard frankincense...

...and the mayhem that follows! :flamer:

The fact that Isaac signed on freaked me right out. At first I thought :fpraise: Oh s***!

Hehehe, then I found he's just a crazy old man like me! Hmmmmm, must be a Druid thang!!

Peace!

Yeah, but I could stand to be more active. I've put on a few pounds and my britches are a bit tight these days.

I agree with you wholeheartedly!

I did not feel at all like myself this morning when I awoke, therefore you must be correct-- I am actually a plant being paid by me, to pretend to be me. How incredibly sneaky of me!!

Now, if me would just stop writing me bad checks, I would be much happier. I know for certain me has money stashed somewhere!!

:hahugh:

It's all good. :) Sometimes I wonder if I'm really who I say I am too. Then my wife gets home from work and knocks some sense into me.

A lot of us author people come because we want to connect with our readers. Its always helpful to stirr up new conversations or answer questions in relation to something you've spent months working on. I come to Mystic Wicks frequently, mostly to read posts. I read 75% of the time and only post 25%

Additionally, I have my own message board at my personal site, so I spend a put more time there, because its my priority. I was thrilled to see other authors here at Mystic Wicks too :)

Actually Ben, I did make buckets of money from my first book. But to do it I had the bank cash my royality advance check in pennies... :awilly:
