Spain, Lézignan (Aude). About 1920. Female abduction. A young couple was tending farm animals in the Sierra Morena when the female was taken by an "ape" when she was washing clothes at a stream. She was kept in a cave and raped, but escaped eventually. The resulting baby girl, Anica known as "the daughter of the orangutan," had a hairy body, long arms and an ape like mouth. Male wildmen are known as basajaun, master of the forest.

Fascinating. Fairytales of trolls may have a basis in fact.

I was under the impression that neanderthals were not apelike...it was my understanding that they could pass for short, stalky people, and would likely be hard to pick out in a crowd. That's interesting.

Interesting. I am skeptical though.
Why haven't more people seen them? Surely they'd be reproducing and coming in contact with Homo Sapiens by now. It seems unlikely that they're living among us. I believe they died off long ago.
And from my physical Anthro class we learned that they weren't ape-like (Neanderthals), they were sort of how Kahlil described-- granted we don't really know exactly how they looked; but it's a good guess (facial reconstriction and all that).

It said "about 1920"-- I have to wonder if this woman had a sexual encounter that if she told the truth, she'd be in trouble so she told them this tale. I don't know.

It's from Spain in the 1920s, and it talks about a hairy ape-like child. Erm... I'm not sure that DNA that different could be compatable.

Either way, though, had homo sapiens sapiens and neanderthals been capable of interbreeding, they'd have completely mixed by now. There wouldn't be a seperate species.

This story is akin to me saying I had Bigfoot's Baby.
