OOO! Yes I have that one! (ordered it from Azuregreen) yes.. it's a really decent book :) Could be a little longer IMO.. also bought
"Exploring the Northern Tradition" by G. Krasskova. It ain't bad either.. but here is a word to ANYONE reading this.. do NOT buy Rites of Odin by Ed Fitch if you want to learn about Asatru.
I really enjoyed Paxson's "Taking Up the Runes" also.
I've been Asatru for a little over a year and a half now, and actual information about Asatru is few and far between (aside from a wealth of information I have collected over several sites, copying the text and building my own personal file folder filled with good stuff on my computer). However, I do believe I would recommend the aforementioned books to anyone wishing to learn more, excluding that piece of crap by Def Itch.

A few I would also recommend are E-Books (free online!):

http://www.sacred-texts.com/pag/ravenbok.htm Raven Kindred's Ritual Book

and from OMACL.Org The Online Medieval and Classical Library
here is what a search of "norse" brings up (many sagas, and stuff) http://omacl.org/search.cgi?query=norse

Sacred-texts.com (http://www.sacred-texts.com/) has many good texts of all sorts..

Last (but certainly not least):
http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/havamal.html
The Havamal.

<SNORK!> So true :) I found that one at the library and made the mistake of taking it home. Only the fact that it was a library book saved it from and ignominious demise :P

Basically you've got a Wiccan still obviously dealing with his Christian upbringing trying to talk about Heathenism. It just sooooooo doesn't work ^_^;;;

Unfortuantely.. I still own a copy.. but I hate to take it somewhere to re-sell.. I figure that's just one more copy OUT of circulation!!

But seriously.. his "runes" are so not even close to anything from the FUTHARK, and he basically says if you don't want or can't have children then you are worthless, and of course there's the whole "women are crazy" thing and to care for your children but not your wife because she 'might be crazy'.. or however it went.. I'd pull it out to quote it.. but then that would mean I have to read a couple of paragraphs to find it.. bleccch..

:twitch: Galina............:twitch:

She attends the pubmoots out here in NYC that some kin of mine have attended, the ummmm......hmmmm...........yeah...........nevermind, Galina is well, "special".

My sister...gods bless her...who follows Wicca, got me "Rites..." for Yule. I thanked her but did not have the heart to tell her it was bunk, it sits nestled in my bookcase far enough away from my other stuff so as not to contaminate it.

Off topic: just wanted to say something about Ed Fitch, I've heard his Rites of Odin isn't good for Heathens, but apparantly, his Grimoire of Shadows (i think that's the title?) is very good, I've seen it recommended by a lot of Traditional Witches, Traditional (aka initiated) Wiccans, etc.

Anyway, sorry to get off topic, but I just wanted to mention that.

But considering who is recommending it means it's probably more junk to Heathens, I've never heard of it myself. And looking at it just now on amazon, it isn't blowing my skirt up.
