1906, Pres. Teddy Roosevelt signs a bill making the Devil's Tower in Wyoming a US National Monument...Brant Rock, Mass. Reginald Fessenden,a Canadian,broadcasts the first experimental radio program on Christmas Eve from the Gospel of St. Lukes playing "O Holly Night", on the violin & reading poetry. It was picked up by ship radios with in 5 miles. On New Years Eve ,Lee De Forest an American makes a similar broadcast that is picked up in the West Indies. Thomas Edison invents the "cameraphone". Movies. But it is not put into use till 1910.

International: Madam Marie Curie is appointed to her husbands post as the professor at the Sorbonne,the first woman pofessor. After her husband dies from a traffic accident. The Simplon Tunnel 12.5 miles long opens between Italy & Switzerland. The Dutch begin work on the Zuider Zee drainage project. Captain Roald Amundson a Norwegion explorer arrives in the Bering Straits after a 3 year voyage.

Dec.1906 AP wire...The Pope - Waverly Electric Automobile Co., of Boston,has anounced that it manufactured 700 cars this year. There open cars seat two in comfort & are powered by an four cylinder,18hp.engine. Price & speed not listed.
