View Full Version : Runes ~ I'm So Excited!

:boing: My son recently received a rune reading at my request and whining and was very impressed. Yesterday he came home very excited and told me that he had seen a vending machine at the grocery store with runes???? I went down there to check it out for myself, and I couldn't believe it! The machine is like a gumball machine, the kind that has toys, etc., and for 50 cents you can get a rune on a cord with a little slip of paper with an accurate meaning! They are not even bad looking and I'd be willing to bet they're similar to some I've seen at fairs, etc. for $5 or more.

This is a small town with literally 100 Christian churches ~ and I wonder if the grocery store knows what they're selling! Well, I ran the risk of people looking at me funny while I bought a few - and one of the ones I got was Teiwaz, which we are discussing in this forum right now. I gave it to my son, who is not on this path, btw, and he was happy when I told him that it is the rune of warriors. He is in the Air National Guard and will be deployed in September. And his girlfriend, who was raised strictly Baptist and is very afraid of fortune-telling, etc., chose Dagaz and immediately put it on and actually wore it!

I'm just so tickled that I had to share! :boing:

Wow thats great about it being in the store as a vending machine and about your son and girlfriend!! :D
Its so strange how we find little reminders everywhere we go! :D

Did you take the runes that you got out as a reading for yourself? ;) Maybe next time ask a questiona nd see what they come up with? Could be funny!

Runes must be the next big trading card/coin/pokemon craze! :T

Yes! :T

The first one was Uruz ~ which we know is MY rune!

It is just so weird and wonderful to see something like that in a town like this one, where even spiritual healing is regarded with suspicion! Which is the case with my son's girlfriend, she is very leery of the whole process. She actually asked me to give her the Dagaz necklace! I'm excited that my son is taking an interest - and that was all due to the expert runesinger;)

The others I got were Teiwaz and Sowilo. Then I ran out of quarters! Very good reading, I thought!

You know, it's often bothered me how shallow people are here in the bible belt when it comes to things like this. If you cut out all the mystery, magick, knowledge and power of the runes and liken it to a simple fortune cookie it's okay to sell them in vending machines but should we ever try to be serious about our beliefs we're immediately labled  evil worshippers of the christian devil. I think it's cool though, Freyja, that they're opening up to it at least a little bit. I suppose I'm still a bit sore that when I told my sister-in-law I'd bought some tarot cards she said "That's playing with devil". Then I told her, "No it's not, they're just cards" and she said "Oh. Will you do a reading for me?".

Isn't it funny what's ingrained?!! They are just cards! It's your insight and interpretation of how they fall and what the symbology means to you, the reader that make them so special! ;)

Freyja,

How exciting! I know I am definately excited when things like that happen! It may be just a crack in the door, but it's enough to get a foot in! :p

You wouldn't believe how many times I've been through that! A religious co-worker told me she'd pray for me because I had a goddess' name floating across my screen saver - but she had faeries and rose petals and such strewn around her own desk. Horoscopes are okay, too. But a friend of mine owns a candle and stone shop and told someone that she was planning to start having a reader in the store and within an hour she received a "Save Your Soul" pamphlet from a neighboring merchant.

I was glad to see it too, I think the machine says "Consult the ancients." The little necklaces are genuine runes and the little definitions that come with them are impressively accurate. But the sad thing is that I'm sure that its presence there indicates that no one knows what they're really about.

My son and I talked some more about his girlfriend's fears last night and I was surprised to hear that he's been having some discussions with her. He attended some Wiccan info meetings during his Air Force boot camp but told me that he chose to remain Christian. But last night, he told me that he's been thinking - and he thinks that all of the religions are basically the same and that no one should be criticizing each other. Now THAT really thrilled my heart!

Yeah Ive been told that Im 'evil' for reading the tarot! & one of my friends mothers sent me a letter after I had read for my friend 'politely' telling me that I had to keep my cards away from her as she didnt want a curse on her family!! ~ so much hate and negativity by people who really dont undertsand at all..On both times the comments did really hurt but I just had to laugh it off, its the only way you can deal with it isnt it!

Really cool about you son Freyja! :D

It doesn't help when the media and entertainment industry portray things such as tarot and the runes as negative. I was angry that Blair Witch II/Book of Shadows started off as trying to create a positive view of Wicca and then evolved into implying that the runes are an evil ancient pagan alphabet. I seriously believe that the creators and writers had an agenda.

I've always been pleased that my son has been very accepting of my religion even if he doesn't choose this path. I've always allowed my kids to make their own choices in that area. I am so thankful that he is open-minded, and that he has a strong spiritual foundation no matter which path he chooses to follow.

Didnt see the Blair witch 2, but can imagine, there are so many films like that that give of confused messages that dont help at all.

The issues with your son are issues Ill be thinking of more and more in the coming years :)
I think its great that you can both be so open with eachother and still be with different beliefs. Well done! :boing:

Ah, yes, there are lots of things like that you will be thinking about! My issue came from my parents not only forcing us to go to church but also to attend religious school and only showing up themselves for special occasions like communion and confirmation. Didn't even show up to hear me sing in choir that much.

I think that my son is noticing that although I don't go to church anymore (but I will attend with him when he asks) that I actively practice spirituality at home. Even if he does complain about the sage and dragon's blood fogs he sometimes comes home to! He's also noticing that I attend my pagan community's esbats and sabbats regularly.

He's even been having some serious discussions with her about religion lately. He told me that he doesn't believe that any one religion is the only way! I'm so proud of him, he really is learning things without my imposing them on him.

runes too...you guys are.....are.....amazing.. you know so many things. I am really glad to have found this site.
Now if anyone out there remembers something called "table reading" or table knocking or even Table rapping...a technique I grew up with....??????

***crosses fingers****

Sorry, so excited I forgot to say how I had never seen any cards like you described....and that I am "but an egg" in some matters.
Thank you for the nice affirming story about runes.

I will see what I can find on table reading and post a thread. Would love to have your input!

Yes, that would be great. I learned this from my Mother, and she from her's etc. basicly you use any table made of wood, and with enough energy raise, can ask questions and get answers. I would go into detail but I suspect, like much of these old rites, there are lots of ways to the path.....

Anyway, would be interested in others thoughts about this, and experiences if they have them.
