What are the origins of the Jolly Roger, the famed skull and crossbones flag that the Pirates flew..and what did it mean?

Thanks - I'm going to be in Charleston next week, enjoying the piratical history of my family's [American] point of origin. I'll post some pictures for you if you like.

Wow..yeah Azure..that would be lovely! I've always heard that Charleston is a Beautiful city! Many of those "old south" towns are. I'd also love to see Savannah, GA.

If you decide to visit one, the other is just a short drive away. If you want to visit a haunted, beautiful, history rich town, Charleston in May is about perfect. Be prepared for the overwhelming ghost situation, however!

I'm leaving the 8th. I promise you lots of pictures. I'll develop on disk so you can see everything.

Awesome! Thanks :) I've been to Ghettysburgh, PA a few times, so I know that "overwhelmed with ghosts" feeling...

Pirate history? Like Captain Kidd? I know there were several East Coast families who sponsored him... the Livingston's? ie. Dr. Livingston?

*off to look for her history book*

I still haven't taken mine to be developed. I got a few nice pics of the trees in Savannah, mostly tombs though, I'm morbid that way...

Charleston is lovely, I prefer it to Savannah myself. Haven't been in years though.... do they still have the Yorktown there? My uncle served on that...
