This is such great news to hear that Greece will be cleaning up the Parthenon. Even though I have never been, I have heard from people that pollution has really taken its toll on Athens. Good to know that Athens is trying to beautify its city for the upcoming Olympics there. I am quite excited to watch the 2004 Olympics, so I can see a modern Olympics in Greece.

One of the real concerns is whether or not the city is willing to sacrifice new finds and potentially damage old ones in the name of "beautification" for the Olympics. I hope these techniques allow for cleaning without damage to the Parthenon. I grew up there and the first thing I saw from my window every morning as a child was the Acropolis. I hope other children don't lose that opportunity.

I really hope that they go about this process in a careful, and maticulous manner, It would be a shame if anything so historical, and beautiful were disturbed in any serious way. But..on the other hand, during the cleanup, perhaps they will discover something of major significance? Who knows :)
