View Full Version : oldest copy of Iliad going online!

Very cool -- they're finishing up a very complete 3d scan of the world's oldest copy of Homer's Iliad (http://www.wired.com/gadgets/miscellaneous/news/2007/06/iliad_scan) and are going to make it available online.

I wish they could do that with every book ever in print. There are a lot of rare books that few people would ever have a chance to see otherwise.

That IS pretty cool... it would certainly help with the preservation of our cultural and historical books... a lot of thin gs are online now but if originals were recreated online then the likelyhood we would lose them to fire or other catastrophes would be minimilized. Thats really cool :)
