I am ready now to choose my God and Goddess. How do I do this? I really think Astarte is my Goddess, because I think of her so much and just hearing that name makes me feel less alone...

From what I have encountered some people do research on the different pantheons and then chose; other folk just kind of graviate toward a certain one.
Some even have the deities appear to them and chose from that.
Best to you!!

I really dont know. Everyone told me something different on how to choose so i just waited and asked the gods to show me a sign. a few days later I saw an image during mediation which led me to a picture of Wesir. My advice is follow your heart. I still havent found my goddess yet..

Hi Vocis
I found that just going with intuition had me gravitating toward my patron/matron god/desses. Sometimes you'll be surprised at who turns up!
You could try doing a basic meditation and asking a god/dess to show themselves to you.
Another option is to check out various pantheons and read as much as you can about different gods and goddesses and choose those who feel most comfortable to you.
Around 18 months ago I felt called by Astarte, though she hasn't "contacted" me (for want of a better word) in over a year now. I have quite a bit of information on her. If you're interested I'd be happy to email it to you - my email is lilu@johndoe.org
I shall have to go through the info to see if there's a god commonly associated with Astarte.
Bright Blessings

I totally didn't choose my goddess. She chose me. Miracles, appearances, and all. I still don't have a god. I doubt I will ever have a God. Isis has become everything to me. I occaisonally pray to Ganesh - who is the God of New Beginnings and overcoming obstacles. I don't feel the same connection, though, and he has never shown himself to me.

MM,
I have a God and not a Goddess well I have seen her I think twice but we arent that close. I felt strange at first not having a goddess seeming is how wicca generally is based around goddess (or feels like it) but I came to realize having a god or goddess is just as important as having both. :D Each person is different and we must do accordingly.
I pray to Osiris "the greenman"

SahuaDjet, maybe together we would make a complete pagan as I pray to Isis, his sister/lover.

Sometimes a God or Goddess (or both) or their totem animal/s will pop out of nowhere and say "HIYA!" :D I think that would be a major clue! In our Tradition, we have a specific work we do in order to find our Gods of Rapport ~ pretty heady stuff, but it works, and oft-times, the results are surprising. ;)

 Oh my Goddess!!! I didn't even realize it until I just read what you said....
I just posted under another thread in this forum about the role of our heritage in choosing a God/Goddess. I said (sorry for repeating myself);
"Freya came into my life about a year ago, after my husband and I had suffered a long period of infertility. We decided to adopt another cat, and before we had even gone to the humane society to look, I had the name Freya etched in my mind, the Goddess of fertility. Somehow, by naming my new kitten after Her I felt like I was able to release my obsession with my own infertility. "
It just hit me that Freya isn't just the Goddess of fertility - she is also the Goddess of CATS!! Can we say D'UH!!! :p 8O
