I've seen parts. It's a rerun I believe.
An older thread, not too many posts though: the tyra banks show(witch episoad) (http://www.mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=154905&highlight=tyra)
I don't think I was too impressed with it. I believe there was "White Magick" mentions...or something. I don't know.

Oh yeah, the mentioned later in the show.
Booo. :/
It disapointed me after watching the whole thing. Dark/light witches, then the Christian who used to be a witch said it was dangerous because her spirit guide told her to kill herself. Well, I'm sure the guide meant to symbolically kill the unwanted energies, but if she's too stupid to figure it out, its her loss of an amazing practice.
Dumb, stupid people.

Tyra will just figure out a way to turn it all around so it's about her.
I don't watch her. She's a waste.

This is true. I also didn't realize it was a rerun.
Booo.
Why can't something about witches be projected on TV and let it be true? Well, there was this one family of witches that they interviewed on TLC and it was done very well, but thats like the only show, ever ever. :/

True doesn't sell. On the whole we are much too normal. Scandal sells. Freaky sells. Sex sells. You don't get much of any of that (especially scandalous freaky sex) if you are tied to the truth...

This is true again. But I think the general public needs to know that we don't eat babies and worship Satan and run around with green faces and such. I guess it'll happen more as our population grows more....
but I still think the truth needs to happen, some people are too stupid to read a book about it so they'd know we aren't odd and creepy.

Oh, I couldn't agree with you more. Just that it will be an uphill battle. But we will persevere....

Which is precisely why they don't show normal Christians or Muslims on TV very often either - all we see are the crazies.
The way I figure it, if people are too dumb to realize that what you see on TV isn't the whole truth, then they probably wouldn't listen to "the truth" anyway.

You know, a friend of mine asked me about this yesterday... and Ive been meaning to coem back to this thread and put my 2cents in.
I think it was what it was. Its daytime television... its bound to happen. I still absolutly adore Tyra Banks... and to be fair Tyra is what she is.
I just loved seeing Fiona Horne again :).
I dont think that it should be paid too much attention to. Yes its perpetuating stereotypes... but I doubt that the Tyra Banks show is really that important in the grand scheme of things. My coworker, who isnt Pagan or wiccan but does read tarot cards :0 said she thought the guests were quite well spoken, despite the last one.
Like i said, I still love Tyra for having Fred Phelps' daughter and grand daughters(??) on... and completly destroying them. :)

I have not watched one Tyra show since this has aired. She's a waste of air-time.

I remember seeing a clip of the tyra show where she gave her entire audience something really stupid, like a block of cheese, and she was freaking out about it as if she had just won 12 million dollars herself....
Some people don't deserve to have a television show, and some people are tyra banks

She did a show on Phelps? What a waste. I'm glad I didn't see that show.

I had posted a detailed post/press release about this exact show on my blog. A lot of people replied and there was a general feeling that the show was poorly done and poorly researched. I take it to show how much more education needs to be put out about who we are. October is right around the corner, and Halloween specials will point in our direction, maybe this year things will take a turn for the better. :)

She is trying to become Oprah jr. Honestly right now I think her show is fluff but what a lot of people don't know is, so was Oprah's, way back when. It was far more tabloid-y. I will give Tyra a few more years to come into her element before I start to bash it. She did just get out of the very vapid modelling world so I give her some credit for at least realizing there are issues out there that don't involve high heels.

I didn't get to see the episode, but from piecing it all together from previous posts, I'd say it wasn't helping us much. Either way, and of course it's just my opinion, I love Tyra Banks and I think she is one of the only celebrities that act "real" on-screen.
Just my opinion though. =P

I have seen the episode three times now (yes they rerun it that much). The first group is good...the second group...not so good (I swear the one wiht the red hair was tweeking on meth)...then the third couple...gimme a break...I wonder where they find these people. Then the christian chick,....UGHHHH.
Tyra depicted it as such a dark thing it was silly.
I do recommend checking out "My Unique Family" (I think it is on TLC). They rerun the one with the founder of the First Church of Wicca in Massachusetts. It is a REALLY good episode. Everytime it is on I record it on the DVR.

I got to see somes clips of it from her website. God dammit, she's so ****ing ridiculous. And I just freaking LOVE how she not so subtly puts down and makes it clear that she dislikes witchcraft from the getgo and all through out the damned show! I mean what was that damn comment at the end after the chick's coven ceremony? We need to burn some sage, I'm getting the heebie jeebies? how in the hell is that even remotely scary? And how some of the people in the clips had images of scary looking faces and burning upside down pentacles and screams spliced in with what they were saying when it didn't have anything to do with it?
It just made us look bad it seems. I mean dang, it looks like Tyra should have just came out and said "I think all these people are going to hell and worship Satan, but I'm going to try and make everything look not biased and make it look like I care what thier beliefs are." Man if I ever see Tyra I'll punch her.
Oh crap I went off on a tangent. 8O

I have seen that TLC "My Unique Family" It was really good. Nothing scary or anything retarded like on Tyras show.
I'm with AdorablyDead, let us punch 'er! lol

I think Tyra was more intimidated and not understanding of just what she was asking about rather than intentionally trying to malign witchcraft.
Why punch her just because you don't like what was on her show? That's pretty mean. How about not watching the show? That's a little kinder. Or better yet - write her a nice basic letter as to what modern witchcraft is actually about - as I understand it, she actually reads and answers her e-mails. You might actually educate her. Why not give that a go instead?

I didn't mean LITERALLY punch her, I don't know how that'd be even possible. It was just meant jokingly.
You'd think she'd try to educate herself by having those individuals on her show, but that obviously didnt help, because at the end she said "lets burn some sage, I have the heebiejeebies". It was a bit offensive to me....therefore I get defensive. And I don't watch the show, I watched THAT one episode because it talked about my path.
Of course I didn't actually, physically mean be violent towards her, it was a type of saying.

August 9th, 2007, 09:43 PM
Nah I say we go the violence method, you know what they say, actions speak louder then words? XD! J.KE
I actually thought of writing her a letter but thought she'd form reply it. But noooww, I know so I most likely will write her one.
And I don't watch it either, I think it's stupid. I just watched those clips to see if it really was as bad as everyone said.
I think Tyra was more intimidated and not understanding of just what she was asking about rather than intentionally trying to malign witchcraft.
Yeah well you'd think that she'd try and read up on it and learn up about the people and topics on the show just a little before she has them on.

Thats what I think too, Adorably Dead. If she actually cared to shed light on it, she'd do her research. So even if a letter was written, I'm sure she'd discard it because she didn't care enough when she had the people RIGHT before her.

MM,
Does anyone have the link to the Tyra Banks show that you've mentioned. I would love to see it if you have it.

The tyra special on vampires is at least found here (one psychic is interviewed):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKjSnmJd2Q8
The wild hunt wrote an article about the episode here:
http://wildhunt.org/blog/2007/01/tyras-witchcraft-adventure.html
I've seen the episode myself and its really not worth watching. Nonsense as usual.
