it was 22 years ago today that Mt. St. Helens blew it's top.
1700 feet of mountain disappeared that day!
i can see St. Helens from my house on a clear day. it looks like an enormous, snow-capped mound these days, but it was quite a beautiful peak prior to 1980.
i've spoken with a number of my witchy friends who lived here at that time and asked them if they had the opportunity to do any serious earth-power magick in the days leading up to the blast. almost to a person they said that the prevailing mood was one of self-preservation and forboding, and that magick was a difficult thing to think of at the time. yeah, no kidding!
and with gray snow-like ash falling for a week, and noticable earthquakes registering every few hours, the post blast environment was not very conducive either!

LOL..I can imagine that the last thing on their minds was doing magick. Oh..geesh..my house might be getting a ton of molten lava poured into it, and if I don't escape, i'm going to sizzle...but..heh..wait..I wanna form a circle, and do a ritual....anyone wanna join? LOL.

I'm glad your friends all survived it. I remember hearing about it when it happened..I was very young then. But I remember my brother sent away for a packet of ashes from Mt. St. Helens.

i was in Northern California at the time, working as a chimney sweep. we were doing a house renovation, and the roofers were using cedar shingles from Oregon. every time they opened a new flat of shingles, a fine gray cloud would form over the house from the ash. very light, but very gritty. i hear it played hell with the cars up here.
