On this day in 1736, the Witchcraft Laws in England were repealed.

i think that was the act that removed witchcraft from the list of capital offences. the last laws against witchcraft in England weren't repealed until the adoption of 'The False Mediums Act' of 1952.
incidently, the last laws against witchcraft in the U.S weren't repealed until 1985! (and there are those even now who would reverse this ruling!)
