Merry Merry Shining Spirits,
April 19, at 8:36 PM EDT the Sun moved into the Sign of
Taurus, the Fecund and Winged Bull. For thousands of years
our ancestors on this planet worshipped the Bull as the sign of
fertility, the Sumerians gave him wings as he was a gift of the
Goddess which could be easily seen by the shape of the horns
upon his head.He also represents the GREAT GOD as is seen in
the Myth of Jupiter assuming the guise of the Sacred White
Bull and carryong off Europa from which union came three sons
and she was given three gifts...an unerring spear, an
inexorable hound, and a bronze man who drove away
strangers.
The spear can represent the path of truth that
the Taurean seeks; for the idea that Taurus is not mystical in
nature is a leftover I think from a patriarchal astrological
heritage as this was once the very first sign and and directly
related to the Great Goddess and fertile abundance, which
unites spirit with earth and brings us life.
The inexorable hound is the symbol of unwavering loyalty and protection
which are hallmarks of Taurean sensibilty, and the Bronze Man
is very near to the Golem idea from the Kabalistic system of
magical manmade creatures which also provide protection,
and Copper and Bronze are metals of Taurus.
Taureans are fond of beauty and sensuality , and revel in the
lushness that new spring brings, and the primal urge of
creation is the source of their power.
Taurus is one of the fixed signs of the Zodiac, which are from
antiquity considered to be the pillars of the cosmos, and as
the fixed signs are steadfast and reliable , so are the planets
in their orbits, and the sun as it rises, and the earth upon
which we walk. So when a fixed sign moves, or changes it is
with great care and consideration, and thus appear slow, but
they are deep.
The Ruling planet of Taurus is Venus who is a major "moving
star" in the heavens and the planet of the Goddess Aphrodite
who blesses all upon whom she bestows her favors. It is a
receptive [from antiquity "negative"] feminine sign, fixed, and
rules the body area of the Throat and Neck and Thyroid Gland.
Taurean flowers are Lily of the Valley, Columbine , Daisy, Violet,
and Poppy.
For Planting, when the moon is in Taurus, plant for good root
growth, or plants that are perennials , or that grow lush
greenery.
Taurean Trees are the Apple , Cypress, Pear, Fig and Vine.
When the sun is in Taurus, The Gods and Goddess smile upon
this earth, and the JOY of the spring is expressed in the Feast
of Beltaine, which traditionally is on May 1, but as many other
feasts has been known to last many days; and there is a
Feast of Walpurgis which is celebrated in Germany and lasts for 12 days,
, and as the celebration is the expression of the
season, it is typically extended to last for the entire season
:>, to bring us the spiritual essence of awakening of to the
pleasures of life, and the unbounded enjoyment of those gifts.
