View Full Version : Selling oils by the drop

I just read a message (I can't find it anymore... so I don't remember your name!) from a user who said she was setting up the sale of essential/herb oils and such on her website, which inspired me to ask this question here.

What I really want to know, is why can't someone sell oils by drops or smaller amounts than the whole bottle? If you have a recipe that calls for tiny amounts of many different herbal oils and you don't exactly have the money to afford expensive full bottles, what are you supposed to do?

Are there any online or mail order essential oil suppliers out there who would be willing to sell this way? Is this idea not a possibility? Can anyone help out here?

Thanks!

There are places that sells essential oils by the drops. I do know two retail stores here in Vancouver that does that. Check with your local aromatherapy stores or health food stores. Don't forget to consider the shipping costs as well. Most mail order places have min orders & such. Although, depending on the oil you want, sometimes it is much cheaper to buy a small bottle. Most stores will sell 5ml size but I have seen 2ml size bottles as well. Essential oils generally keep for a long time, if you store it right. In fact, most of them improve with age.

Hi Apple!

I have not started selling my oils yet, but will be selling them in 4 dram bottles (1/2 ounce). I really don't know of any stores that sell them by the drop. But I have seen oils sold in containers as small as 1/4 dram. It seems to me that it would not be cost effective and as I know from buying my oils in bulk from a manufacturer, that it is cheaper in larger portions. I will let you know if I come across any stores that sell smaller portions.

I spoke to Wildchild, she gave me some internet sites...

www.gaiagarden.com and
www.cranberrylane.com

I haven't checked them out yet... but I figured since I got an answer or two, I should post them in the thread for others.

If you don't practice alone you can talk to others about splitting the cost and then spliting the bottles. That way you don't have to spend as much and niether do they.

I bought a bunch of oils wholesale from www.poyanaturals.com. When comparing to the 5mL and such bottles I was going to buy, the wholesale was definitely much cheaper. I've had them since Christmas and they've kept so far, and it's convenient having so much right on hand.

Heh. My first time buying oils, and in the dead of winter, and my jajoba showed up frozen solid. :D Thawed out, though. :D

Hi Apple

I sell Essential oils and I sell them in appx 1/3 ounce amber bottles. I only sell wholesale and the prices are usually less then 1/2 what they sell my oils for in Health food stores. You can see my products on www.bidbay.com or just email me and I will tell you the prices. If I find smaller bottles I will be happy to sell you less but the 1 dram bottles I have are clear and you really need to keep essential oils in a dark bottle. E mail me at Catey13@aol.com if you like :-)

Everybody is being really helpful. Thanks a lot! I'll keep all this info on hand for when I get money. (How many times have we all said that?) :)
