Every now and then I toss a dream topic in here -- this week I will again.

As a reminder this is NOT a place to ask for an interp on your own dream, instead to disccuss :)

So now this weeks discussion, what does it mean when you dream about YOUR body, your teeth falling out, or coming in; your hair getting cut, falling out, growing fast; your weight getting BIG or small....

When you dream about YOU what does that tend to mean?

and attn lurkers --- we would LOVE to have you say hello, please know we want to hear from all of you, even if it is hmm interesting, or I don't know but I...

You know, I rarely have these dreams. I guess the closest I got to these was when I was pregnant, but... I just chalked that up to pre-occupation with baby-making. :)

Hello, from a lurker in this area! :)

When you dream about YOU what does that tend to mean?

I've been meaning to keep a detailed dream journal, but I always forget. *sigh*
Usually it has to do with something literally or symbolic going on in my life.

I've had dreams of loosing my teeth (which is a common dream).
I have bruxism (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bruxism/DS00337) & 24/7 my teeth and jaws are clenched (literally)--I've tried to stop, but can't. In my sleep I grind my teeth, have all my life (lucky no major damage). So sometimes these dreams I suspect are just part of my brain noticing that. One time I was half asleep and I could sense that I was putting TONS of pressure on my front teeth, I was worried I'd break them it was that much force...but I couldn't wake up. Sort of scary.

I've had dreams of giving birth too.
Of having my throat cut and loosing my voice.
Of dying only to come back to life.
Etc.

I've noticed when I'm stressed out I get more dreams about myself, so it's probably my unconcious trying to warn me about something.

yay! for delurking :)

nods I agree that the teeth dream is very common

and also that for me when I dream about my body, it is often stress related, as if my brain is saying well will you pay attention NOW?

~lurker alert~ ;) Hello everyone! When i dream about my body, its always positive- i look like i want to look (how i look in meditations- internally, i guess. how my spirit would be portrayed at a human) and im very happy. Something i have noticed though, when im going through something that's especially hard to deal with, that form changes involuntarily and loses basic senses.

Weird! I get 'teeth' dreams an awful lot too,
I think mine are just junk dreams though because I clench my jaw and grind my teeth in my sleep. LOL.

I've had dreams about fears of mine, having my face slashed or being poked with hypodermic needles.
These ones seem to happen when I'm stressed or worried, I don't think they mean anything really but are a reflection of my emotional state at the time.

I've had those ever so popular, 'o-mi-gosh-i'm-nekkid-in-public' dreams.
For me it was usually warning not to be too ambitious or telling me not to be so ashamed of who I was, it all depended on the context.

Sometimes when I was younger I dreamed that I was very tiny, like actionfigure sized.
I think that one had to do with feeling inferior or lost, or even just wanting to be left to my own devices.

I once had dream that I was suddenly much taller than my boyfriend at the time.
That one was about overcoming a bad situation and standing up for myself against him.

Recently I've dreamed about doctors and clinic appointments...
I figure that's because I've been going to the doctor lately and have been concerned about my health.
(which it turns out is looking good so far!).

Always good to see new people posting in these discussions!
Come out come out wherever you are!
_whistle_

I've dreamed about dieing before too, and leaving my body I guess that counts.

Or having special abilities, flying, being able to shoot fire from my hands.

hehe
Some of it is just fantasy, too many tvshows or videogames.

But sometimes there is still meaning there,

your teeth falling gee I just now had a flash back of several dreams where I lost my teeth and waking up convinced that it had happened.

I have also had dreams of losing my hair and the pregnancy ones as well ...

For myself any dreams I have had about my body it either dealt with an insecurity or something from my past... Whoa I just realised something .... ah not sure I can share it here but wow I am stunned at the moment....

Definitely flying.

Another would be "dream spinning," where I leap into the air and twirl around like a figure skater doing a triple lutz, except I continue to float in the air after I have swirled around for a while...:spinnysmi

For me, dream spinning means freedom from the material plane. Liberation from the magnetic passions so that the mind can instead focus on the higher realms of ideals and imaginative conceptualization.

What do they mean to you?

freedom -- but also a great way to teach and practice lucid dreaming :)

Dreams about one's body. Hrmmm. I have an example but have been trying to think of how to put it delicately. Then, I realized, since I wasn't looking at it from an erotic standpoint I could just be honest but circumspect.

I have a dream that occurs whenever I "know" I am not going to get what I want. In this dream, well I basically don't reach the "pinacle" physically. I usually have this dream a couple of nights before I find out, once again, someone was a better fit for a promotion.. I used to ignore it, considering it one of those nocturnal "joy" dreams. Then I started to see a pattern. I always have them before a disappointment. Pretty basic. Unfullfilled physical release correlating with an unreached goal in one's waking time. It fits.

Another type of "body" dream I have is a bit harder to define. I am a big guy hefting about a sword. Those usually happen when I am facing a crisis or a conflict in the waking time. In the dream I am victorious and I claim said victory with "honor". Physically, in the dream, I feel strong and almost invincible. Almost as if my pysche is telling me that I do have what it takes to "beat" the issue no matter what my waking self says. Strangely enough, when I have that dream, I will wake up and just know what I need to do to overcome the obstacle.

I don't have dreams about my hair or teeth falling out. But I have had dreams where I find myself naked at school. My old highschool to be perfectly honest. At 40 you would think they would stop. But no. I always wake from those dreams remembering how it felt to be on the outside looking in until I made wrestling manager my 10th grade year and became the person who could fit into every clique. I basically, mentally stripped myself of all that HS baggage when I was there and just started accepting me for who I was. Not the me who couldn't afford Gloria Vanderbilt jeans and all that jazz. So instead of feeling exposed in the "naked at HS" dream I feel powerful and as if I am a valid force because I stripped of all the bs that people carry around. The judgements etc. As if, standing as my naked self, showing all to the world I am reaffirming the me without trappings. I have that dream when I am feeling inadequate of invisible at work. Or feeling as if I am on the outside looking in again. Over half of my coworkers have been there less than a year and they are very cliquish. For a while the attitudes and reactions to our high stress job was eerily reminiscent of HS and how kids picked on each other.

Well that is all for now. Need more coffee.

Isn't it funny how many people really do have a lot of insight about what they dream - when they have removed the emotion of just having had the dream to the logical or dissection part :)

Thanks for sharing!

Hope, I hate to say it but I dissect or analyze EVERYTHING. You should have seen all the experiments I did with the pendulum years ago. Trying to determine if there were forces - other than the paranormal or unconcious movement on my part - that would account for movement. If I thought I saw a spirit I would like at everything logical that could explain it.... lol The same applies to any lucid dreaming, regular dreaming, meditation etc I do. I think, dreams, and divination in general, all hinge on a body's understanding of their human nature and the nature of others.

A dream can represent fears, insecurities, concerns - even if you don't share it with others.

And sometimes a dream is just a pleasant movie when you are asleep. I had a really great one where I was a CSI. Okay it was great for me but others may think it a bit off.

This would be an interesting topic to cover - directing one's own dreams. Off topic eh. I know. My mind never could not pull in correlations or let this comment lead me to that thought. ';)
