On Monday my mom was fine. She was walking, talking, and and lucid. Yesterday she woke up ill and as the day progressed she became worse. She eventually fell and couldn't get up because her legs and arms were so weak that they couldn't support her weight. She fell in the kitchen and then again in the bathroom and that is where she went face down on the floor and couldn't get up. My daughter ran next door to get the neighbor to call 911 and an ambulance arrived to take her to the hospital.

The doctor in the emergency room ran all sorts of tests on mom including a CT scan of the head and neck, X-rays, an EKG, blood work, a urinalysis, and checked for dehydration and diabetes. Everything came back normal but yet mom is progressively getting worse. She mumbles instead of talks, can't remember hardly anything, and she seems lost inside her mind. She doesn't have Alzheimer's, no heart attacks and no strokes.

She was admitted last night and so far I haven't heard anything else. I am going back this morning for an update so hopefully it's better than last night.

Please could you spare some energy and prayers for her quick recovery and return home? Anything is appreciated. Thank you.

Well, the update on my mom is a bit confusing. Despite all the tests coming back normal, mom is still slurring her speech, lethargic, and confused. She hasn't gotten better since this started. The doctor has her in occupational and physical therapy and has asked me several times to put mom in a nursing home. I refused and said she would come home when released. So now I need to find a night job so I can be at home during the day with her, and my husband will be home to watch her at night.

We are planning on having a vising nurse come in to take care of her three times a week but that doesn't seem to be enough. There is a medication that she needs to lessen her pain but the doctor hasn't yet prescribed it. I hate seeing my mom suffer like this.

Thank you for everything... mom is home now and recovering. She seems to be better and is getting around with a walker. The doctors are scratching their heads as to what happened to mom. They still don't have an explanation. All that matters is she is better and I am grateful for all the well wishes from everyone.

Strength to you and your family. It's not easy taking care of a parent, no matter how much you love them. Remember to take care of you, too, in the midst of it, because you will forget.

I hope she continues to do better and better. Many good thoughts and blessings to you.
