Our baby, Liam has had diarrhea for 9 days now (terrible, I know), and the doctors seem to think he has clostridium difficile...we are beginning flagyl for it, but poor Liam is so sore, tired, and sick...any healing energy would be much appreciated. His bottom has really gotten sore and red and broken-down, and he is a bit dehydrated. We've seen the doc's and had a ton of tests run, so hopefully it is the correct diagnosis and he begins to heal, but so far this morning he has had 8 bouts of diarrhea in 4 hours.

POOR BABY!!!!!! My nieces recently had a bout with Giardia and Cryptosporidium so I do understand what this poor punkin' in going through. Are you getting something like Pedia-pops or Pedia-lyte down him? I found that the frozen popsicle thingies worked best for my nieces....gave them their electrolytes, slow fluids and they thought it was a "treat" so they ate them like crazy. As for the sore bottom...A&D cream helps and plain old corn starch can be very soothing.

I don't know if the docs told you...but the flagyl can make you have diarrhea. Fluids are of the highest importance for the poor baby.

Poor fella.....you will all be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hope he is better soon.

Blessings

Thank you both. Yes, we've got pedialyte and me (he still breastfeeds) and yes, they told me about the problems flagyl can cause with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Urg.

He was exposed to c-diff, and flagyl is what will kill the c-diff. So, we gotta give it a try...

I have been lucky, he is taking yogurt fairly well, and the live active cultures are important to get into his GI tract.

We've done several diaper creams, my DH is calling it butt-spackle as we have to lay it on so thick. The doc also suggested some baking soda in the tub water, to help neutralize any acids he is passing.

Im sorry he's sick. Energy to liam, hope he feels better soon.

This sounds almost like what vincent had in april.. They said he had a stool infection (not sure if its the same or not) He was sick for about a week or so. We had flown to NH,and when we left to come home he seemed better. then he had a day or 2 of throwing up/diarrea, then was better. His diapers were really runny, mustardy in color, and fowl smelling.
They also suspected rotavirus but said it came back negative, but they gave him the doses of rotavirus vaccines to be safe as well. he had his last one at his 6 month check up.

Most of us here at my house have had some kind of virus over the last couple of weeks that sounds very much the same. It's crazy stuff, better one day and worse again the next. I can't add much to the good advice that's already been given, so will just add some healing energies for Liam. :hugz:

Oh darling. I hope you're little darling will be okay.

It's not the same but our little kitty just had a bout of dihareah and it was just awful seeing her go though that. I can just imagine how you feel.

I'm sending you loving and comforting energies and some soothing energies for a baby bottom.

Hope all goes well with your baby! It's good that you've got him on yogurt. You may want to try some cornstarch on his sore bottom - it's wonderful at drying up a rash (which is hard to do when he's going so much!).

I'm sure that the doctor's are doing whatever they can, and I'm sure it will pass. Little ones have a way of scaring the snot out of us with being sick! He'll be fine, I'm sure. Did they rule out allergies, btw?

Being that you're breast-feeding, you should make sure that you sleep and eat well (hard to do with a wee one being sick!). You could use some yogurt yourself, I'm sure. When my kids were babies, we used jello water (just use twice the amount of water) rather than Pedialyte. The pectin keeps you from dehydrating as well, so maybe some jello for Mom would do some good.

I have a book called "Herbs for Health and Healing" and I looked up remedies for diarrhea in children. Blackberry tea should work, as well as Slippery Elm. I'm not saying you should give them to the baby, but you have the advantage of consuming these teas and passing them on to him.

Take a deep breath, and know that he'll be fine eventually. And a few months from now, there will be something else, some fever or freaky rash that he's got - there's always something! Just don't forget to take care of Mom, too.

And if you're not getting results with your doctor, go see another one. This is your baby, and nobody will get mad if you take him to get a second opinion. Two heads are better than one!
