I normally live at college, but school's out and I've been home for two days now. I generally meditate daily, which I started doing a little over a month ago. But now that I'm home, both times I've meditated, once I get to where I'm going, my body gets really overexerted feeling and I have to ground myself really quickly and open my eyes, and when I do, I'm out of breath.

Any ideas why? How would a change of scenery do that to me?

maybe you are releasing energy that you werent aware of, either from within (maybe something burried in your past) or exterior (like an entity) that is somewhat catching you off guard.

try meditating outside. if this is no help, use srong protective stones, like (best double-ended) rough shoerl black tourmaline, agate, natural onyx, tourquoise with clear quartz etc.

if all of above doesnt help, than try a diferent meditation approach. not like shuttiing yourself down in order to reach meditative state, but something where your awareness i highend: sports/workout/dance.

try to watch your surroundings and yourself

become your own witness

When you meditate, what sort of practice do you follow? Do you do simple breathing meditation, sitting or walking, or do you utilize imagery in your meditation practice? Do you use chants, or music of any kind?

When you are doing breathing meditation, it is important not to force the breath, as this causes tension in the chest and abdomen which will cause you to breath shallowly, and may make you out of breath. When you simply allow the breathing to come as it will, uncontrolled, and focus on relaxing the body, it will tend to deepen and lengthen the breath. Other factors such as your heath, levels of hunger and tiredness will affect your depth and length of breath. Its important not to push these things.

I was doing visualization meditations at the time I had this problem.

Looking back on it now, I realize that my problem was that I had a lot of stress and negative energies about being at home. Now that I'm back and a lot of the problems I was having with my parents have been solved, my meditation is back to normal.

Thanks for your advice, though!

If you were using visualizations, I would have suggested that you cease using this method for a time and practice mindfulness of breathing. It seems you have solved your problem temporarily. However, the difficulty with your parents is not going to go away. It will still cause you suffering even if you are temporarily escaping it. Eventually you will have to face this and open communication with your parents, or you will be unable to work past it.

I have the same problem.

By "back" I meant back home again with my parents. A lot of my problems with them are going away now as they're starting to treat me more like an adult and my mother has found some things that give her joy in life.

I know the difficulty with them will not go away soon, but I am not yet ready to completely open communication with them about my frustrations. But for now, I can at least avoid it pretty well during most of the year while I'm off at school. I'm only home a couple weeks a year. But I don't want to open the communication that I need to open until I'm financially independent. They have threatened to pull college funds in the past over disagreements about the directions I am taking my life. I'd rather wait to discuss it until they don't have that card to play.

Thanks for the advice, though. I do need to follow that advice, and I will here in a year or so. (God, I'm so tired of college limbo-land!)

Maybe you're going deeper into meditation than you think and are on the verge of an out-of-body experience?
I say this because you mention getting out-of-breath and this is what used to happen to me when I was meditating and on the verge of an OBE.
Do you get any other symptoms at all? Whole body vibrations, pounding heart chakra, a sinking feeling, etc?

I may be totally off the mark here but I thought it worth a mention as the out-of-breath thing rings a bell with me, but this is just one of the things it could be.

Hmm...interesting.

I know next to nothing about OBEs, so I would certainly not recognize one coming on if that were the case. Perhaps I will have to read up on that.

Thanks for the suggestion. :)
