The Astral Familiar or the Physical Familiar

What would you rather work with in you spells a rituals?

I answered that I like both equally. Many people think that a physical familiar is always an animal, but it could also be another physical entity, such as a ring, crystal, etc. Here's a site with some info:

I'd personally pick the astral. Nothing against the physical, but my only candidate (little black cat) likes to eviscerate bugs in my shoes, stick his nose in my dinner, and kidnaps my tarot cards when I leave them out for any more than a few minutes.
Maybe he's telling me to lighten up? 8O

Astral, no doubt. The Physical ones tend to get in the way.

I've only worked with an astral familiar, one in particular. I have two cats personaly, there are five that live in the house, but only the two are mine. Not one of the five has shown the slightest intrest in my working. One of my two, is to old to help, and the other has quite the attitude. Of course none of them are all black, and only one has any black on it at all.

I'd like to get a black cat, but my father would kill me if a brought another one home with five pets cats and seven strays already.

I said both :) My cat Merlin is the coven familar (he's all 3 of our's) He's actually very helpful :) Having his energy around really helps. Its like he's doing the magick too :) Our astral familiars are equally as helpful. They help us focus :) So both. lol

He loves the energy I create in a circle, but I only bring him in for rituals I do at daybreak, because he gets too excited and if it's dark he falls off his perch... can't see too well in the dark, I guess!!:eek:

But I've recently been contacted by an astral familiar, and I've been working with him on and off for a few months. He's a very sleek black cat with golden eyes. Then a week or two ago I was meditating, and I realised he was a cat called Sylvester I had when I was a child. He just swished his tail, and looked at me - as if to say "Finally! She recognises me!"

I'm not sure how to class him though - I've thought of him more as a spirit guide than a familiar.

I have dogs in my house, too disruptive.
I have cats outside, I think they think they are dogs.
My husband has an unusual kinship with owls, turtles, and frogs.
So I really don't use either one. I have not been contacted by my astral familiar yet. Maybe someday.

I don't really have a preference.. though Spike (a silver tabby) has expressed some interest in becoming my familiar. I've decided to write up a ritual to dedicate him as my familiar.

He seems to really like that idea! I've been working with astral familiars a lot, and have always wanted a physical familiar. So.. I'm about to obtain a very willing kitty!

Well, my cat Rosie is about as magic as they come. . . but technically she is my parent's cat, and can't come with me when I move - she'll just move back with them. The cat I'm taking hasn't shown much aptitude, but she's young yet. The cat I had from early childhood (she died at 23!!) was fabulous, and I think she still hangs out and contributes, where ever I work.

I really like working with astral animals... but I've always wanted a physical familiar. I hope to get another kitten (have to convince granny-in-law) and make him that way.. if he'll have me! :)

Never worked with a physical familiar before during ritual. But, I have worked with Astral familiars in a sense.
