I'm fairly new to crystals. I have a small collection, which I have just now gotten to organizing/separating. I've been 'into' them since, well for as long as I can remember. But there are a few I still can't identify. I was wondering if anyone would help me figure out what a few of them are. I'd scan them as I went along.

Sure but if we don't know what they are right away you may get some odd questions. :) Someone is bound to know though so you can't lose.

That's fine, I'll answer any questions I can. I have several scanings of them.

I tell ya, it's *really* helpful  when the one selling it (pic) to you, doesn't even know what it is.
first one: scan one:

Looks like quartz with inclusions, maybe tourmaline.

PM my friend Winter Maiden. She owns a shop here where I live and sells stones and is very good at identifying them.

I'm thinking tourmaline also, but I'm not sure. I have Melody's Love Is In The Earth , which is like the crystal "Bible" and it gives verbal descriptions but they are still sometimes hard to identify. Her two supplemental books have pictures.

here's the second one. It looks black, but with a light, under or on it, it's green.

and another scan of it

I'm a rockhound myself. (Yes folks, say it with me--GEEK!)

It's hard to tell from the scan, but the first one looks to me like it could be a faceted fluorite. If I can ask, about how big is the first one?

The second one looks like a pyrite/mica mix or raw hematite.

One thing I love to do is identify stones! We just went to a crafts fair recently and my mother would point out pieces that she didn't know so that I could identify them for her.

Also, this is just a tip: I collect sterling rings with stones in them. A great trick on eBay or other auction sites is to look up silver stone ring (or earrings or whatever). A lot of times, the seller has it and doesn't know what it is and they sell it real cheap. I've gotten many for well under what they should be charging if they had a clue of what they had!

I hope this helps a little. :)

The second one looks a lot like moldavite to me...

I thought it looked like moldavite too. . . which always feels like it's electrically charged to me.

Oops, second one IS moldavite. I still have to check up on the first one. I would scan the third one, but my scanner just crapped out on me.

The third one is definitely sodalite. It looks almost exactly like a piece I have. The last is rose gypsum.
And the second looks like it might even be garnet, is it transparent at all?

Élistariel

uh, I thought garnet was red

the second one IS moldavite, I'm not sure about gem02 being sodalite though. I have sodalite, this is a bit different. No, not garnet. I have a little book on crystal healing, and the moldavite looks almost exactly like the pics in the book only a teeny bit darker.

Garnet is the only stone that comes in every color. :)

Gem 3 looks like something called "Angel Wing" calcite and gem 4 looks to be Amazonite.

I've got a huge Angel Wing calcite piece that's more greyish, but when I looked it up, the calcite formations came in quite a few color ranges.

That blue one is definately sodalite. ;)

The last one looks like some sort of agate. I like it, though, the eye-band pattern is nifty.
