Hello,

Um, I'm interested in learning more about these paths but I'm having a few obstacles right now. I hope nobody minds me asking these questions. 8O

1) What advice would you give to a person who is interested in these paths?

2) Does a person's genes play an important part in coming into this path?

3) How would a person go about learning Voodoo, Hoodoo or Santeria? Do they need to find a teacher? I've read through the book recommendations but their availability is extremely limited in Australia.

If these sound silly, I apologize.

Hello,

Go with the flow. Allow the promptings to lead you.

2) Does a person's genes play an important part in coming into this path?

No!

3) How would a person go about learning Voodoo, Hoodoo or Santeria? Do they need to find a teacher? I've read through the book recommendations but their availability is extremely limited in Australia.

These paths are just one culture's expression of Truth. You can learn Truth anywhere and anyhow. However if you are interested in a particular Cultural Expression of Truth then I think that you will need a teacher who is steeped in that culture. Books will help to give you a cursory knowledge of the subject but as it is a mainly initiatory tradition there are limits to what can be found in books.

I have a question: What's the difference between Voodoo and Hoodoo?

I have a question: What's the difference between Voodoo and Hoodoo?

Voodoo is a Religious practice of Ancestor worship
Hoodoo is a system of Folk Magic

BTW, plumedsnake gave you wonderful answers and if you were to want to go in depth with one of the practices you would need to find someone to teach you as far as Voodoo or Santeria at some point initiation is involved. Hoodoo is a type of folk magic and you use things that you have on hand for the most part and it is largely sympathetic magic for the most part. Many practitioners do a lot of candle magic in Hoodoo too. Hoodoo would not require someone close by to teach you how to think about things.

That is the biggest problem I'm having with this. Where I come from, I don't know anybody who practices any of these paths.

A Woman in my 'coven' took the long distance course (http://www.luckymojo.com/mojocourse.html) from Lucky Mojo, a well-known Hoodoo shop several miles from where I live. It's supposed to be a really good course.

Thanks for the link, I'd love to do that course, obvously right now, I couldn't (for one thing, I haven't got the money to do it), but, I'm also not a regular customer, does anyone know, if she accepts international students (e.g. those from the UK, etc)?, and, could I become a customer of hers, by ordering stuff online (again, I won't be able to do that yet, but, maybe a year, or something, I should be able too).

Thanks for any help, 'cause I'd definitely love to take this course, Hoodoo is something I'd love to learn and use.
