It was quite visible that she wasn't singing the song.
Nonetheless, I cried...

Yeah I figured she wasn't singing either..and I don't blame China for their actions.

I think it is horrible to put a prettier girl on stage lip syncing to the voice of someone else. The girl with the best voice should have been allowed to sing live in front of the world. How shallow!

From the article:
But the singer was Yang Peiyi, who was not allowed to appear because she is not as "flawless" as nine-year-old Lin.
(snip)
They faced a dilemma because although Lin was prettier, seven-year-old Yang had the better voice, Mr Chen said.
"After several tests, we decided to put Lin Miaoke on the live picture, while using Yang Peiyi's voice," he told the radio station.
"The reason for this is that we must put our country's interest first," he added.
"The girl appearing on the picture must be flawless in terms of her facial expression and the great feeling she can give to people."
Singer Lin, who is being called the "smiling angel", has already become a media celebrity because of her performance.
She told state-run China Daily that she felt "beautiful" in the red dress she wore during the performance.

I agree, quite shallow.
Also from the article, a commeter from China:
If the stories are true, it is absolutely disgraceful and I am ashamed as a Chinese citizen. Having not one but two occasions of dishonest performances, it calls into question the entire opening ceremony and Olympic preparations for which so many people have worked so hard towards.

For me, a chinese, it is a shame. But I do kind of understand why they did it. There is a youtube link here that might explain what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8rMzPLaadEQ

I can understand why they did it. But I do not agree with it. Spring Rain, I do not think you should feel shamed because most people do not hold the entire Chinese population accountable for the actions of one or two..
Here in America for example, many people do not agree with how they are being represented in other countries by our Ambassadors and such, and they will be quick to tell you so too.. Peek into the Political Forums and you will see lol,
This story reminds me of an old Gene Kelly movie where they needed a Lady to sing and there were two ladies.. One was pretty but couldnt sing her way out of a wet paper bag and the other was not as attractive but sang well.. so they let the pretty lady be on stage while the other one was back stage with the microphone...
I feel sorry for both of these little girls though, they will have this in their memories for the rest of their lives.

He he, you are totally awsome! Your extremely right about that too! But whatever China chooses to do, they should think that it reflects upon the whole Chinese population. Of course, they should also consider what other countries too. Regardless if it's just this incident or future incidents similar to this.

Did you hear about the fireworks in the openming ceremony, some of them at any rate, that apparently, so they say, were added on by CGI subsequently because it was felt that the actual ones were insufficiently impressive? I heard someone say something about that on the radio the other day.

Dude...who cares. They still put on a damned good show.
ETA: Not saying that as anything personal aginst you..just all this whining I've heard from here to the news, etc. about how a few things were faked and is now scandalous bothers me. Who cares..they put on a good show. Its more realistic than what we fill our brains with everyday watching the news and other shows anyways.

I think it was kind of stupid for them to use another little girl because one little girl wasn't cute enough... so they rip off her voice and put a "cuter" little girl in her place. Like anyone in the international community would have said, "Good LORD, that child is not cute enough! That is one HOMELY little girl!"
But I think the scandal about the possible ages of the female gymnasts is much bigger, personally.

I think that in the end the way things have gone with the Olympics (which I can say I never saw a min of with pride) Just makes me question the character of the people who put this stuff together. The Olympics were meant to be a friendly competition between nations. An athletic event meant to if only briefly bring the world together. It has in the past few years become about cheating to win and what nation is more or less liked in the world eye. The Olympics in my view has lost its luster and what made it special and become like everything else in the world jaded by image and the gotta win, gotta be the best attitude. Honestly this doesn't surprise me, but it disappoints me.
