Not only that, but now there is a debate heating up within the Commandaries as to who is a legitamate Templar and who isn't...

A group of people claiming to be the heirs of the legendary Knights Templar are suing Pope Benedict XVI, seeking more than $150 billion for assets seized by the Catholic Church seven centuries ago.

They also want to restore the order's good name. Founded in 1119, the Knights Templar was a secretive order of Christian warriors who protected pilgrims on their way to Jerusalem during the Crusades. They fell out of favor years later, and members were accused of denying Christ, worshipping the devil and practicing sodomy. Many Templars were tortured and burned at the stake.

In 1307, Pope Clement V accused the order of heresy and officially dissolved it.

Um... how do you prove that you are the legitimate heir of a templar? And can I get in on that?

ROFL! People will sue for anything these days. How long until we can sue deities? YHWH owes me some reparations for the pain his followers have caused me. :p

not an heir as in decendant, an Encampment of Templars in Spain are sueing for the estimated value of the land pope clement seized from the templars in the 14th century..

At issue is whether or not this group has the authority to speak for te Templars at all.. The Supreme Grand Encampment is up in arms about it because they are claiming the knights in spain are clandestine..

as far as proving validity, a lodge's history can be traced... and so it would be possible to determine if they were legitamate or not...

The problem is, during the 14th to 18th centuries the Templars were more less operating in secret, and mostly underground untill the rise of Modern day Freemasonry as we know it through the Grand Lodge of England.

It would be hard to trace any Templar commandary's history to any date before the official re-establishment because no one kept any records for fear of being caught by the Vatican...

Mm-hmm.... which means I might just as legitimately be able to say that I'm a templar as anyone else! Well, except that I'm a woman.... And I think they're nuts to try to sue the church...

Wouldn't you think that a crime that took place seven centuries be protected by the statute of limitations?

Maybe I should find a christian friend to sue the entire Jewish community for murder at this rate. (the killing of Jesus and all)

one would think so, :) but the statute of limitations is a US law and I am not sure if it is applicable in world court. If this even will see the light of a courtroom that is...

I think the vatican did more harm than good to themselves by publishing the manuscript last year acknowledgeing the truth behind the whole templar deal, but who in their right mind would even consider being counsel for the plantiff in a "Templar Vs Vatican" court case?? it would make for nice court tv though lol

and by the way, the Jews did not kill Christ, the Romans did :nyah: but that is a different thread lol

Jew, Romans, Monkeys. My point is the same, which is this seems a tad silly.
