a small but hopefully not insignificant religious protest took place at the Acropolis in Athens.

I don't think those ancient sites should be desecreted, can't the government build the museum elsewhere?, I'm sure there must be other areas where there's room to build a museum elsewhere.
I'm glad that group have won recognition of the Hellenic religion, that said, I'm hoping this news doesn't get some Pagans into saying Christianity, or Christians, are "oppressing Pagans and their religion" (which I have seen some do).

This museum," he said, "will happen because it does make the argument for the [Elgin] marbles' return home."
Maybe if the Hellenics had come up with an alternate plan that would allow the Elgin marbles to return to Greece instead of just protesting the only plan on the table for having them returned, they might have been able to preserve the location.
You want to preserve a historic site, you have to have the money to do so.

the director of the BM has already stated that the new museum is NOT up to the current standard, and because of that the Elgin marbles will NOT be returned.
my understanding is that this new museum has been a boondoggle from the beginning. this is only the latest of many battles.

QFT, personally, I think those marbles should go back to Greece, although, I'd like to see them first :boing:!.

Even more reason for the Hellenics to try fundraising. Then they could solve the problem of the return of the Elgin marbles and show that they were right about the museum as well.:hehehe:

I know that this is a late post but I really think that the marbles should be returned. They belong to Greece not to England.

I looked at that page twice, with some care--but did not see the article. Anyone else have that experience?

Sekhmet, I agree with you. This is a late post for me as well, but I also agree the marbles need to be returned to Greece, they belong to them, NOT England!

What can you expect. Of course if I had stolen something I would be in jail. Of course to the English (and no offense to the English) it wasn't really stealing, it was buying it off of something. SOMEONE THAT FREAKING STOLE THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
