I personally have nothing agianst Satanist so to speak but you have to look at who committed this violent act, teenagers. You have to ask yourself where did they see this stuff? By nature Satanists are generally peaceful folk and most do not resort to this type of crime I think it would be a shame to judge the whole of the Satanic network on a bad few. People of cults and religious sects are always wanting people to see things from their view and its things like this that makes the view bad for most folks. Our thoughts and prayers should go out to the families of these kids.

I tell you, stories like this really get me upset. On the one hand, I'm mad at the little punks because I think chopping up girls is for cowards. Yeah, cowards. But on the other hand, I'm mad at the reporter because the person obviously doesn't give a hoot or a holler about the fact that most Satanists aren't like that. Occasionally you run into a few bad eggs, just like in any other religion. No religion is without its own criminal element. But for the most part, Satanists are law-abiding citizens just like anybody else, who work jobs and raise children and clap their hands when Dirty Harry blows a hole through Andrew Robinson, just like everyone else.

I agree. Many Religions already have enough bad stigma thanks to Hollywood and ignorance. I like to mess with people when they ask me if I kill babies and use human sacrifices. I ask them if they are volunteering... :giggle:

Lol doesn't matter though does it..to the reporter I mean. Its all about selling papers, getting the hottest story. The fact that details about law-abiding satanists are left out and the real story probably worded to bring out a lot of emotion from the reader.

It's against the tenets of our faith to harm innocent people and animals.

Yeah..I did note reading through the article that they were all of lower than average intelligence..the suspects I mean. That and I wonder what the social, environmental and political surroundings were. Not that there's any excuse for this, just trying to peer into the mind of a killer..killers.

I can concur with your conclusion as I do have some close friends who are also Satanists. The shock value of this for the paper though is what the writer is looking for. People fear what they do not understand and will just assume that these kids did this because they are " Satanists" and for no other reason. Then they will think how vile ALL Satanists are as a whole. Sadly I have seen this happen with other religions when something of Shock Value was News Worthy.

Theres a very misunderstood thing in regards to Satanism and thats the fact that they actually do not worship Satan himself its the acts that are worshipped. Now in some sects Satan maybe the object of worship I cannot say.

Or what their family life was like... I noted that to about the lower then average intelligence I wonder how low it was? Not that it matters because even people with a high intelligence have killed ....

I for one do not write for shock value and I do get annoyed with those who do.
And generalizations in my opinion sucks and I think it puts people on a very narrow path.

Oh don't think I have anything against journalists in general..I don't. Although it must be noted that a lot of professions have stereotypes so this one is no different. Lol, I was just saying its all to make a buck.
I do agree what was their family life like? And yes smart people have killed, but my correlation here is the low intelligence and thinking killing people would make a deity happy in this case Satan. This reminds me of the Rodney Farrel murders for some reason. I'm wondering what they expected Satan to give them..for all their sacrificing. And to dig up a corpse and eat its heart...

True that some do not ,but there are who do and I am just basing that on those who I have met in the past in my own city here.

I found some of the comments that were left by readers particularly interesting, for example:
Why do you have to believe in anything, except for respect for others? Anybody who takes their "beliefs" to extremes ( i.e. fanatics) turns out to be insane. Whether you are a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Hindu, satanist, Jehovah's Witness, mormon, etc. etc., or any other religious or anti-religious movement, why can't you just keep it to yourself? Why does extremism nearly always result in death to others? Extremism always means that they they just have not thought it through - a symptom of low intellect.

think this horror has nothing to do with Satan but rather with total madness of people that had probably mental problems in the first place and whose beastly acts were perhaps boosted by drugs or alcohol as is often the case !
- chiron guy, basse goulaine France, 15/9/2008 14:29
The majority of Satanists, including members of the official church of satan, are nice and peaceful people who choose and alternate lifestyle to the existing religious hegemony. A focus on pleasure rather than penance.
These kids obviously have believed the Christian interpretation of what satanism is.
- Eoghan Beecher, Cork, Ireland, 16/9/2008 5:22
Along with the fact that there was very little if no comments of the "kill all the satanists" variety. Seems to me these kids just went with the media view of what satanism is supposed to be and representing themselves as something they are not, pathetic, disgusting and very sad for the victims.

The report, the audience reads the audience decides. Certainly you don't believe every story you come across or every word you read in an article. Surely you can tell that papers are biased etc. but I don't see how blame should be placed on the media. For example we read the article and we noticed that not all Satanists are murdering idiots..surely there are others who can too. For all we know they were Satanists (worshipping satan) so in that case the media did not lie just failed to give a full background story into what Satanism is. But in that case, they reported it and we decided.

There are biased bones in the media. In this case the media just reported the incident no harm there. Newsflash, I believe nothing I read and very little I see its when I start believing that I get worried.

Lol, there are biases EVERYWHERE, not just the media. Just saying not everyone will think Satanists are evil murderers when reading this article just as we have not.

My take on this is Satan sells.. otherwise it is just the murder of young girls which is senseless in itself. Now people have a name and a group and a religion to blame it on and can feel better knowing that the police are looking for Satanists.
I really do feel for the families of the victims. Tragic

*sighs* I suppose they just thought of Satan as being pleased by 'evil' deeds, and thought they could gain his favour by murdering innocents and committing cannibalism, lobbing in a good old 666 and an upside down cross(gotta be anti-Christianity!) for good measure. It shows they also crucified a small rodent too, and I'm sadly not surprised. Fiendish brutes. How vile.:grrrrr::flamer:
They're of lower-than-average intelligence alright; it doesn't take someone smart to throw out a bunch of 'evil' cliche's. :dis: And why DID they want to 'please' Satan so, anyway? Why were they willing to murder people to do it? Only one of them seems to have referenced money as a motive.
And their alleged leader is a former church choir boy. Curious. :eyebrow:

Bad reporting and a lot of stereotyping.
However, what a terrible thing to have done.
