Don't get me started up on this utter crap, yet another article published to scare people. People fear what they do not understand and I highly doubt this woman was ever a member of a Santeria group. Chalking her up to a nut job. Why does everyone try to portray Voodoo and Santeria as a group of druggies who kill and hurt people? I thought that was the Manson Family....

Please take this in the total smart a$$ way that I mean this- If she did have a voodoo "cult" after her why would they bother to beat her? Could they not havve cursed her?

There are wanna be's in all paths. Just because they might have been known to her as a Santerian group doesn't mean that they were.

She was beaten, she had injuries, but she also has a history of mental health issues. Maybe she is telling the truth as she sees it.

As for the joking comments about voodoo cults and curses, I see it as being the same as witches and spells. Just because someone claims to practice magic doesn't mean they can perform with it.:hehehe:

My guess, the group, if it even exists, is a group of people that have watched one to many Santeria based horror movies and run a little sex and blood cult.

Then again, maybe its all a publicity stunt for a Jerry Springer episode.:T

I'm sad this lady was so seriously injured....however it happened. Having read the story, I can see many potential paths of occurance..and some holes. Some of the issues I thought key: some of the people were of this alleged Santeria group, drugs, teenagers. My base thought? She used to hang out with some of these people, they were into drugs and "other things", she decided to leave the group...possibly with threats of telling on them, they decided to "put the fear of..." in her to keep her from telling. Also....they caught her on her way home from church on Saturday? They took her, were abusive to her...she got away and she didn't call police and report this on SATURDAY? Next: They came and got her again on Sunday, abused and beat her...she had a cellphone in her pocket that she didn't use until AFTER? I wasn't there, I don't know what REALLY happened...but if I had a cellphone in my pocket..I'd be trying my damnedest to call 911..even if I just had to speed dial it and let the emergency line listen to what was happening. They can trace cellphone signals by triangulating on the cell towers. Now if she had no cell service where she was..that changes things a little...but it still does not excuse her not calling the police on Saturday.

Sheriff's Office: Woman's claim of
kidnapping 'unfounded'

Flagler County Sheriff’s detectives announced today they closed as "unfounded" the case of a Palm Coast woman who claimed to be abducted and attacked by members of a voodoo occult group.

Michelle Wood, 42,was found Monday lying on the side of U.S. 1 in St. Johns County, beaten and bloodied with a rope tied around her right wrist and a bungee cord around her left ankle, reports said. She told St. Johns Sheriff's deputies she ended up that way after being abducted twice by members of a Santeria voodoo occult she once associated with. Wood was hospitalized for a time but has since been released.

She said she was attacked when she refused to participate in drug use and devil worship in a ceremony related to the autumnal equinox.

But cult experts said Wood's story didn't match up with known voodoo practices. And sheriff's investigators found no evidence of organized satanic worship in the county, according to Maj. David O’Brien, Criminal Investigation Unit Supervisor.

In fact, O'Brien said his investigators couldn't find "credible evidence" that a crime even occurred. Plus, Wood has a history of making similar fraudulent claims to law enforcement, the Sheriff's Office said.

Wood couldn't be reached for comment

Baloney has a very distinctive smell.

It's conceivable to me that there is a criminal element in Santeria, Voodoo, et all. But this is the case with all religions, and any news reporter who doesn't make a specific point of this fact is being completely irresponsible, and should be fired and discredited to the fullest extent.

Or at least, that's my opinion. But I don't even know very many devil worshippers who commit such atrocities.

The voodooists that I know do not worship the Devil..... Santeria and Voodoo are two different things......The people I grew up around and that I associate with are not drug users however maybe that is something another area is into. Most of these people are upstanding citizens without criminal records too. A few were wild in their youth and did some silly stuff but that is about it as far as a criminal element, Hollywood really has done a number for the image of Voodoo and Santeria.

Its so very sad to see these kind of things happen - I think the Media portrays anything that is not christian or jewish as work of the devil. The truth is that some crazy things do happen - but when you hear something like this - now this is just plain ridiculous...

The Lwa are strong spirits, in some carribean countries they will throw a Machete at you if you disobey but this is a Lwa of Petro Rite - and not all behave in this manner - and for them to do this there has to be a huge level of disrespect - they will never truly hurt you just scare you and teach you a lesson in that manner....

The point is - people need education on what these traditions are because as we all see the Media drags us to the ground.
