I'd read a bit about the "swan pits" unearthed in Cornwall, and how they might have been some sort of spell. Here's a recent article including photos:

Thanks for the link about this in Archaeology.
I was just reading up on this on a local history blog for that area:
Secret Bird worshiping Cult at Saveock (http://www.archaeologyonline.org/Site%20-%20Area%20Feather%20Pits.html)
[This site didn't work well on FF3, I used IE7]
It's a fascinating find. :)

Interesting info and photos although I found the tone of the article a bit patronising to Pagan beliefs.

Agreed... The end of the first paragraph shows the author's assumption that witchcraft is the "dark arts." *grumblegrumble*
However, the find itself is really cool. I'm especially intrigues by the pools.

Thanks for those interesting links, I'll read them more tomorrow, but, from the parts I read, they definitely are very interesting discoveries.
I'm also particularly interested in this bit:
From the article Ben linked too:
But archaeologist Jacqui Wood has unearthed evidence of more than 40 witchy rituals beneath her own front yard, bringing to light an unknown branch of witchcraft possibly still practiced today.
That's very interesting to think some witchcraft rituals are still carried out today.
