Hello everyone,
I want to see what everyones ideas are on this matter, and see what sites they are reading on this matter.
I have read The Clan of Tubal Cain's homepage and 1734 witchcraft site (http://www.1734-witchcraft.org/).
Feel free to rant, comment and even pick apart the topic at hand.

They should save the drama for their mamas.

I've been seeing the ongoing power struggles on some other email lists I'm on. It basically boils down to different people, all with legitimate claims to being practitioners of the Clan of Tubal Cain system, jockeying for the role of "top poobah."
One thing to remember though is that 1734 is not the same thing as Clan of Tubal Cain. And the Roebuck group is again something else altogether.
The three are all descendants of Robert Cochrane's coven (active in the 1960s before Cochrane's death in 1966.) The 1734 group was started by Joe Wilson after he had a series of letters with Cochrane in the 1960s, and is Wilson's system based on Cochrane's letters but with other material mixed in. The Roebuck group is similar in that it was a system started up based on Cochrane's letters but later on reconnected with one of Cochrane's successors, Evan John Jones. (Dave and Anne Finnin, who founded Roebuck, were "adopted" into the Clan of Tubal Cain by EJ Jones and started up a branch of the Clan of Tubal Cain in addition to the Roebuck.)
EJ Jones apparently appointed two other women in the UK the title of Maid of the Clan of Tubal Cain. The big controversy is whether he meant for one or both of them (or neither of them) to be leaders of all the Clan and not just their own Clan groups. And then there's the issue of whether the Finnin's Clan in the US is supposed to fall under the jurisdiction of the UK Clan Maid(s) or not.
The Finnins were set up as Clan by EJ Jones in the 1980s, and the two women in the UK were made Maids in the 1990s. EJ Jones is now dead of course so he can't clear up what he meant with regard to the pecking order and authority system.
Personally, I tend to think that power struggles like this detract from the "real work" of spirituality and magickal development. That's why I'm not interested in joining a hierarchical system. There are enough popes in the world!

I follow 1734, and try to stay out of the power struggles of the Clans. I have to so, though, that I like Shani better than the other ones, because I've interacted with her and she has always been really nice to me.

They let their drama spill over into my blog, I was none too pleased. I am especially pissed now that their witch war has caused Peter Paddon to step out of the public eye and stop producing his Crooked Path podcast. You can't fight over who is heir if the "king" never named a successor to start with. Knowing what a trickster Cochrane was, he's probably laughing his ass off from the spirit world. Those involved in the witch war need to get over themselves and hierarchy so they can ALL carry on the legacies of Cochrane and Joe Wilson - not who has the right to do it over the others. A certain someone needs to stop picking on the UK side - you can be prosecuted for harassment and stalking and slander on the internet today you know - smarten up!

This drama has already been laid to rest after it came to light that the legal threats were baseless and didn't even come from a lawyer. I agree that this should be handled more privately, and i think it's a real shame that it has happened at all. The truth is already out, and it doesn't look well for a certain someone making the wild claims she has made.

I've always been sort of curious about 1734, however, witch wars are extremely off-putting and make me disinclined to find out more.

Our coven was apparently founded on some 1734 teachings... I say apparently because in the beginning there were some interactions with Roebuck that I ran across in old coven newsletters. Also we seem to share an obscure deity with them, Tautus. There must have been a falling out at some point because they dropped out of coven news. When I contacted Roebuck about that deity that is in common with our coven and theirs, I never heard back.
All this happened long before my time and the group members had since died or moved on... I am not really interested in finding out what drama took place, I really just wanted to know how we ended up with a celtic god no one else seems to know about.

I have to second Deerwoman's statements. Its terrible that Peter Paddon had to go and shut his podcast and website down over it all, he provided a wealth of information and knowledge to the community.

I was trying to access some more of Peter's podcasts a while ago and the site wouldn't work. Someone told me on another thread it had closed down but I didn't realise this was the reason. I also feel that is quite disappointing as I thought his podcasts were very good, personally.

He's actually started it back up in a different form on his Pendraig site under the blog. I think he still has a real itch to scratch when it comes to putting out the Crooked Path podcast, so I'd look for more to pop up once he's settled from his move!

I'm glad he's up and running again. He comes across quite down-to-earth and a jovial character from his podcasts as well as having lots of interesting information.

You're welcome but its MoonBear you should really be thanking. I wouldn't have found the podcasts otherwise because I think Peter has deliberately taken it off (or not put it on) Google searches and other searches etc
