Animal guide = power animal?

Just to make sure: is animal guide the same as power animal?

You *could* use the terms interchangeably but I would think of an animal guide as an animal spirit or entity that is a guide, whereas a power animal might be animal I might look to for inspiration in it's characteristics - ie. I'd think of a specific entity in the first place, and in the second a general animal - for instance in the former the lion that shows up in my dreams and meditations, in the latter lions in general.

Technically, the two terms have different meanings, but most people use them to refer to the same thing... kind of a matter of semantics, I reckon...

As far as I know, a power animal is a kind of animal-archetype whose qualities you would seek to embody, where an animal guide would be more of a teacher, more of an individual spirit.
