So there's a chance I might be able to get a full time job at the university doing high end digital scanning. Pay is reasonable, they said that they don't know exactly what it will be, but over $10 an hour (which is better than I'm making at my current job), and health benefits kick in right away, unlike where I'm working now--other than workman's comp, there's a 120 day waiting period after full time kicks in before one gets benefits...one way or another I need to get some wrist x-rays, and so I'm hoping I can get the job at the university sooner rather than waiting until my benefits kick in with my current job.
The position depends on the approval of distribution of grant money (they have the money, and at the immediate level it HAS been approved, but the process has to go through the higher-ups and they have to approve where the grant money goes as well).
It's only temporary, lasts until June, but it's a foot in the door using high tech equipment which will be very marketable for other projects, and I know they are trying to get a second system in to do more projects, so it's possible that even when this job ends I can line up another one fairly quickly by the same process.
So if anyone has a little energy to spare for grant money being approved for full time for this position, I'd be grateful. Likewise, I do like the people I'm working with now, and my manager, I feel bad about leaving them in the lurch if this grant goes through, especially during the holiday rush. I gave the manager a heads up on what's going on, so he can decide what he wants to do, and I also said that in the event that I did in fact get hired on campus, I'd still be willing to work Saturdays through the holiday rush if it helped ease the pressure of them suddenly having to train a new person.
So energy to HobbyLobby as well, that in the event that I DO get the job at the University, HL gets a decent replacement who learns quickly and works efficiently.
