View Full Version : Pregnancy and Ibeji?

well...

SUPER LONG story short:

I'm now pregnant. I had a reading and was told the Ibeji (twins) were close to me now, as are Shango and Babaluye.... I may possibly have twins but the baby(ies) will come in June, so it may just be the Gemini thing...

Anyway...looking for anyone's experience with Ibeji, if any. Also, any patakis would be nice. :)

p.s. do the Ibeji have "correspondances" in Vodou? I know the vodou entities are different and from a different tribe/culture that the orishas but some/most have similar attributes across the board so just wondering....

thanks again.

hope this sparks up this thread section again because it's been kinda empty and un-posted in for awhile lol :)

I hope the link provided at least a little bit of helpful information. :)

Do you know how far along you are? And were you hoping for a boy?

Hey Violets honey! Congratulations!

I just found your post, sorry for not responding sooner! Your reading rang a bell for me, and I recalled the twins I connect with Voudon - le Marassa, represented by St Cosmos and St Damian.

They are of the Rada lwa, and are associated with children, babies, and especially twins. They also represent the synergy that can come from something becoming more than the sum of its parts - so if it turns out not to be twins, look out for one fireball of a kiddo!

Here's some links I found with more information on le Marassa for you:
http://www.gede.org/lwas/marassa.html

http://www.ezilikonnen.com/marassa.html

And a reference to them in the book, "Voodoo and Afro-Caribbean Paganism" - available on Google Books: Here - http://books.google.com/books?id=UIntnxaXMjQC&pg=PA54&lpg=PA54&dq=lwa+marassa&source=web&ots=ltHT1frvRr&sig=BETSEeGvuSa7m5FLsHuMKD9MomA&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=5&ct=result

Their feast day according to that is January 6th - The Visit of the Magi to Christ, also known as the Feast of the Assumption, and the Epiphany. http://www.encyclocentral.com/18213-Feast_Of_Epiphany_Theophany_Christ_Baptism.html

Hope this helps a bit - I'm so jealous, I want twins so bad. :hugz:

I just found out I'm now in my 11th week...and, yes, I was definitely hoping for a boy. I strongly believe it will be but we'll see :) Why do you ask?

Thank you so much for the links and congrats! *hugs* Haha, why do you want twins? we can trade! not reall, but I'm a little scared: twins can be overwhelming. I don't know what to expect but I'll just wait and see. Right now I'm expecting them to be twins as in my mental and pre-natal preparation but I'm not sure if I'm exactly looking forward to the twin experience. I never would've imagined having twins, but that's what came out strong in my reading *shrug* Either way, it's a mighty blessing and I'm excited, if a little naturally scared based on inexperience.

I always find it amazing how a woman almost always knows the sex of the baby before either the birth or the ultrasound. It's crazy how our intuition works. And I hope you get that precious boy you so dearly want.

How have you been lately? :)

wonderful! I've been blessed with a low-problem pregnancy, my greatest relief is that I never experienced any morning sickness. A little back pain now and then but otherwise great. I've been in a great mood, laughing more and laughing hard, as I haven't in ages, and just generally feeling more focused and calm. Good times! :) thanks for asking...

LithiumViolets, how have you and the baby been lately? Hope you are both doing wonderfully.

I found a poem recently by Elizabeth Barrette, it's not Voodoo related but it does relate to pregnancy:

Saining

For nine long months, you dreamed
beneath her heart
And waited while your soul
and body grew
Enough to bear you into life, and through
Whatever this new world might
make your part.
You've passed the gate of birth
and now, apart
From mother's flesh, must
make your own debut.
With soft blue eyes you
see all things anew:
So see us now, and let the saining start.

While mother holds you closely to her breast
And calls the God and Goddess with a rhyme,
Your father calls to Ancestors unknown.
With salt and water cleansed, protected, blessed
Be hallowed to the Old Ways from this time
Until you grow enough to choose your own.

I hope it's okay I posted this poem here. :p

Wow. Everything truly does come full circle and the orisha never lie!

Now, I wrote this post ages ago, in my first trimester of pregnancy. So much has changed....

For one, I had the baby, obviously :P

For two, I have since met another priestess-- NOT the one who gave me the reading in the first post-- who is now my godmother and who will be initiating me next year.

Now, I haven't talked to the woman who gave me the reading saying my son would be Ibeji since....January 2009.

When my son was found my ultrasound to be a single child, I thought "hmm....but the priestess told me he would be a twin/Ibeji....maybe he'll be a Gemini"....when he was born a Cancer, I was puzzled. I said "well, maybe she was a little off on that part of the divination" and left it at that.

TWO WEEK AGO I went to a drum ceremony for the orisha/goddess Oshun. Oshun descended from heaven and mounted (read: possessed)....so, in the body of one of her children, Oshun spoke to me. well first she grabbed my son and walked around with him on her shoulder. Then she spoke to me and told me that he WAS IBEJI!

Now, let's digress for the briefest moment so I can clarify that NO ONE IN THE ROOM OR THE HOUSE has ANY association with the priestess who gave me the initial reading in november of 2008. No One in the room or house was in the room with me when I got that reading. No one except you all on Mysticwicks who read the thread, myself, and my significant other knows about the reading that said my son would be Ibeji.

So....The orisha, the divine entity Oshun herself told me. Now, not that I needed any proof that the orisha were real but I'd still be a skeptic up until that point, that moment would have made me a believer lol. Oshun told me my son was Ibeji in the womb but the twin died and my son will have to receive Ibeji (the orisha...or orishas, however you look at it. He has to receive the implements of the twin orishas, who are said to bring great luck and who are also fierce warriors despite being in the form of babies/children, which is good news) for his protection.

SO, that solves that mystery lol. My child was indeed Ibeji, just like the priestess divined. So she didn't lie. Yay.

I just thought I'd share.
