Viewing the Elements

In my readings, I have been finding that each author seems to describe the Elements differently. Some describe them as an animal representative of each natural element. Others say they are more like power personified- actual guardians, more of a person of a lesser diety. And then others feel they are just one facet of nature.

I am having a hard time deciding how I feel about them. I have been trying to mediditate and visualize them, and having been coming up with nothing. What are all of your thought on the Elements? Maybe someone will say something that clicks within me. I hope this isn't a stupid question, and I am sorry if it is. 8O

Well, there are Guardians, and there are Elements, and there are Elementals ~ each are different things, and are charged wit different duties.

I've also heard the elements are different aspects of the divine being, whatever you may call it. Kind of like gods, since they bring about different specific properties, but not normally given God status. I'm still trying to figure out what they are to me. when you meditate on them you might want to try sitting out in the breeze for air or under the sun for fire, etc, etc.

To me they are something all around us. I comunicate via emotion and thought. I tend to deal with elementals I have always felt them. Sometimes the wind feels like a hug or the water a blanket sometimes it feels like the earth is holding my hand. I don't really know how to discribe it any better.

I think you described it very eloquently, Yvonne.

If we are talking about the Elements: Earth, Air, Fire, & Water; they are the Primal Substance of the Universe, the building blocks, so to speak. Older than the Divine; in fact, in most creation stories, the World(s) & the First God/Goddess usually comes, in some way, from the Elements.

Yes, Elementals are something else, entirely. Elementals embody the aspects of the Elements.

ARGH! See, I am so confused! Without sounding extremely dense (really I am not :p) and like I should not even be here on these boards, could you explain each concept a bit more to me?
I am understanding now that there is a difference~ The Elementals are a powerful presence belonging to each Element, which are the main facets of Nature. Is that right? Then where do the Guardians come in? And in what ways or for what reasons would you call on one over another?

Well lets think about this. These authors were just as most of us were one day. They now have written books on what they feel to be THEIR truths. We all have our OWN truths. Books are wonderful starters, great to get ideas from, but basically, in meditation you can find what feels right and true for you. I am not saying they are wrong, b/c they aren't. But if you have doubts in anything you read, and search for an answer that you just cannot find, then look within for your spirit to tell you.
